    • My senior dog acts weird after eating…

Good value and my senior doxie does seem to love it. I'm sure this is a good limited ingredient vegetarian dog food for most dogs, but every time my doxie would eat it, she acted weird (like she was high, staring into space, eyes wide open, not responding to me - just not her normal self) for a few hours afterward. I can only surmise that it is an ingredient in the food that she is sensitive to - maybe the rosemary extract, I don't know - but I stopped giving it to her after 4 feedings. She eats a homemade diet, but I wanted to add a good limited ingredient veggie kibble for the taurine and vitamins. We started feeding this to our dogs at least 4 years ago when one of them developed allergies to chicken and yeast. It's difficult to find dog food without those ingredients that isn't really expensive. In glad that we found this one. Our dogs are both happy with it. The dog with the super sensitive stomach has been doing much better since we switched to this food. On the rare occasion that the food isn't available, it's a major hassle to find a substitute. I have 4 dogs; a pit bull, a rat terrier-pit bull mix, and two hound dogs. All 4 love this kibble, and are plenty healthy from eating it, with some Natural Balance plant-based canned food mixed in. All vegan dogs, and they're doing great.

Long story short, I have a 7 month old Chihuahua mix puppy that has been diagnosed with food and environmental allergies (after ruling out ectoparasites and finding out she's allergic to lamb, chicken, eggs, and fish, and pollen). She gets cytopoint injections for the environmental allergies and this food helps with the food allergies. Throughout the food elimination trial I have tried other brands that make vegetarian and limited ingredient diets (some were difficult to get because of being backordered). My picky eater will actually eat this food (I soak it in warm water to soften it). It's been about 5 weeks now on this food and her scratching/itchiness has subsided to almost nonexistent. The price is ok, but it's fine since it's working. The kibble is too big for little dogs and I wish there was a small bites version (I crush it up with a mortar and pestle). We turned to this brand after testing a different vegetarian brand due to our Pitbull's protein allergies. Every dog is different and this is our 3rd try on a different dog food. Ours experienced way too of loose stool on a different vegetarian brand and it was causing plugged anal glands because there wasn't enough pressure to express them. I totally understand the struggle for those where this brand may still be too high in fiber for their dogs. We had our fair share of cleaning up floors with another brand so I had to add 1/4 c. rice to every meal just so the dog could make it without accidents. I chose this one because of it's higher rice content and it seemed to do the trick. I don't have to cook anymore rice! While the amount is more than on old dog food, stools are plump and firm for my dog with this brand. My dog druels for this food. 2 bags of this is still less expensive than our prescription dog food and easily attainable. Our provider for the prescription food would have processing issues and shortages (pre-covid). It also smelled really bad. This food doesn't really have a strong odor, it just smells like dog food. Our dog has major hair loss from the food allergies and even with the prescription diet which included hydrolyzed chicken protein, hair loss was stalled but not growing back. I know they say that the body shouldn't recognize hydrolyzed protein but I'm convinced it was still causing issues. After just 2 months on vegetarian dog food, we are now seeing some hair regrowth.
