  • This controller is a lot of fun, great build quality and great sound
style: Controller
I am an old school vinyl DJ since 1984 and decided to give this controller thing a try as I had to play in a club where they did not have turntables. It is so much fun to play with it, easy to use, great sound quality. I am loving it. If there is one thing that could be improved it is the headphone amplifier. In a Club the headphone volume is a bit low, you have to crank it up to the max and it is still not loud enough. But a simple external headphone amp will do the trick ... show more

  • Worth the upgrade
style: Controller
I've had the MKI MKII and now the MKIII of the Native Instruments S4 series. This has a LOT of new features but my main likes and needs as far as upgrades are as follows: - It now has XLR and RCA out with a 1/4"TRS separate monitor out with its own volume control - It now has 2 mic inputs. One 1/4"TRS and one combo 1/4"TRS/XLR - The mic and line inputs seem to be more sensitive and have a higher volume sensitivity than the last generation. - Being able to see waveforms I don't really use the haptic part of the jog wheels but they're still great jog wheels that are as accurate as ever. ... show more

  • Digital done right
style: Controller
Wow. 20+ years of using DJ equipment and this tops my list of favorites with just a few days of use. I've always had a strong preference for Vinyl but used many different digital interfaces while playing out. I never really liked how the software worked or how the jog wheels felt. But convenience won, I caved and bought this to use on my 600Gb+ collection of MP3s. The Traktor S4 Mk3 simply does what I want it to do and does it very well. All the inputs and outputs you need in a 4 channel mixer. All the features you want in a club style controller and then some. The only thing I would change (which is possible with software/firmware updates from NI) is how FLUX mode automatically engages with reverse mode. Not sure some of the negative reviews. I understand there may have been issues at the launch and with older operating systems. Mine worked without issues and setup was a breeze. New firmware seems to have resolved the issues. If you're not on Windows 10, suck it up, it's user error. Vinyl will always have a place in the DJ booth, but digital can offer a lot now in a smaller space. 10/10 would buy again and again. ... show more

  • It's good
style: Controller
I like traktor the best. I used to have an s8 and while i miss the screens i like the size and feel of this. I did miss the jog wheels even though they aren't super necessary. It's easier to fix mixes that are slightly off on this than the s8.

  • Love Traktor great for Beginners and for Musician's looking to work with Tracks
style: Controller
I love Traktor. I use pionner CDJ-3000 as well and they are the best for Djing for friends or parties but when I’m alone I love playing with Traktor. I feel like I have so much control over the tracks, cutting songs loops saving them using them as remix decks… way easier on Traktor for more creative ways to make sounds and samples then if your using pionner Cdj. Pionner CDJ are the premium top of line and the only way to Dj but for making music at home I have so much fun with My Traktor S8 and now my S4, and with the addition of beatport streaming accessibility to music has become so seamless!! I wish Apple Music and Spotify would integrate with Traktor because my library’s are locked into those ecosystems ... show more

  • Could be great pending a soft/firmware update
style: Controller
In the past I've owned both the S2 MK2 and the S4 MK2; I've also used a friend's XDJ-RX2 a little bit...I'm having a slight bit of buyer's remorse wondering what it would have been like to purchase that all-in-one system instead. If the software for the S4 MK3 wasn't so buggy, it would easily be the best controller I've used. The hardware is really nice and it has a ton of great features. It's a great choice if you're a casual DJ like myself, but it simply won't cut it for a professional who needs dependability while on stage. For this type of user, I'd recommend a Pioneer anyway as that is the standard club setup and you'd want your music library in the binary format that those systems expect. There's really no pros for the S4 MK3 that I want to mention here (don't get me wrong, there are many...but other reviews have covered this). However, I do want to add my specific list of issues as I feel this is most important for a potential buyer to consider; I also want Native Instruments to hear what needs fixing! Come on guys, I've had this thing for three months and still no update? People have been complaining about these bugs for half a year! - if a filter is completely closed and the EQs are also closed, the audio will clip at about a 5 second interval - occasionally crossover occurs between some of the knobs/sliders; I've noted two or three times now that adjusting a channel fader will sometimes cause that channel's filter cutoff to instantly adjust from 0 to -20/30% before jumping back to 0 - lastly -- and I don't know if this is a really stupid feature or a bug -- but if I have a loop set and leave it by pressing a hot cue, the loop will not deactivate...I don't mean that the audio will continue looping (it will jump to the hot cue as expected) but the loop remaining active prevents the move knob from working until I explicitly depress the loop activate/deactivate knob I don't think I will sell the S4 because (a) it's very compact and the other system I'd consider replacing it with (some all-in-one Pioneer) would be comparatively quite large and (b) I'm a casual DJ and can tolerate the buggy software for the time being. However, if NI doesn't update the software soon and address all the issues I have, I might get fed up and sell it anyway and begin look for an alternative. *update:* I got fed up and sold this unit and got a DDJ-1000 which I'm very happy with ... show more
