  • Beautiful to play and display
For just over two months now, I have learning about and learning to play Native American style flutes. I have learned that I am more likely to play a flute if it is close at hand, I like its voice and I like the look of it. I have been learning on F# flutes because they are about the largest flutes my small hands can easily play. Bass flutes were simply too large for me to play, or play easily. And expensive. This flute feels just like my F# flutes in that the finger holes are practically identical. It does have a slightly longer reach, but this does not affect the playability. It has a great voice, deep and mellow. I have had no problems playing it, and I got very fast response to a question I had about the flute. This flute is striking in appearance, too. The smooth walnut, beautiful inlay and unusual oval shaped bore. I like everything about this flute, and I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • My personal favorite
I have several of these instruments, some by this maker and some by others. This particular flute just speaks to me. I find it very easy to play and the sound is fantastic. The craftsmanship is exceptional. I love the way it looks and it has a very clear voice. If I could only have one flute this would be it. Doesn't take much breath to play. Because it's a deep flute you might not find it as easy to overblow. Wonderful instrument and a real bargain for this price. ... show more

  • Wonderful! i am an amateur native flute player and ...
Wonderful ! i am an amateur native flute player and this is my third flute but first one from SPIRIT FLUTES. I had previously purchased a low D flute from a local vendor and was very unhappy with it. So what I wanted when placing this order was a good sounding flute. What I got was a beautiful work of art that plays a rich and beautiful tone. The fingering holes are well placed and very comfortable to play. This flute takes minimal air flow to produce a full rich sound. I dare say that when I even just pick up this flute is has a wonderful energy and spirit to it. Aptly named Spirit Flutes. I could not be happier with my purchase. They say that one of the "problems" with being a native flute player is that you always want yet another flute. I look forward to my next flute and it will be made by Spirit Flutes ! ... show more

  • Absolutely Beautiful Sound!
I’ve been practicing a very inexpensive Indian flute that I got while living in Hawai’i and I decided to get a bit more serious about playing. I remembered that we have some Native American in our bloodline, so was inspired to purchase this Native American flute. Wow! I love the deep sound that comes from it as well as playing in the upper register(been a trumpeter for most of my life). I don’t regret buying this at all! My only dislike is that it is tuned to 440hz and not 432hz. Nevertheless, I will be playing this Rainbow Maker and pleasing my spirits for years to come :) ... show more

  • A beautiful instrument
This is a beautiful flute to see. But its the voice that made me fall in love with it. I have many flutes from many makers, and this is my second from this artist. It is my all time favorite flute. The voice is sweet soft pure and magical. It doesn't play a wrong note, doesn't squeal shriek nor go flat. Takes the smallest amount of air imaginable. I can hold the sweet notes forever and run scales without a blip. This flute is perfect in every way. ... show more

  • a beautiful instrument
I just received this lovely flute today in the mail. It arrived much sooner than it was supposed to. This thing is very aesthetically pleasing - it looks amazing, and sounds amazing. It feels very sturdy too. The smell of the wood is even wonderful. :) When I ordered it, I had buyers remorse - I clicked cancel order (or so I thought) luckily for me my internet connection had failed when I pressed that button and the order went through. My previous flutes were from high spirits, and they sound wonderful - so does this. This actually feels sturdier, too. Very heavy duty walnut. It is a little quiet, but as I use it for studio recording, or playing venues with microphones, it makes no difference. The sound is excellent, definitely studio quality. Its definitely pricey, you can get high quality flutes for less, but overall I do not regret this purchase one bit. If only they made a contrabass flute! ... show more

  • a precious heirloom
sublime. this is me SECOND purchase. I also own the flute in cherry. both are outstanding in tone, in playability and craftsmanship

  • Beautiful and well made
This is the second flute I bought HIgh Spirits. They both sound good and have pretty accurate intonation. What I am most interested in is volume and accurate pitch. I would buy more if I knew they were louder. I once had a plain, cedar flute which did not cost much but it really put out. I encourage the maker to give more information about woods and builds that put out more volume or to figure out how to make these flutes more resonant. I used to jam with drum circles and sometimes other instruments - these flutes would not cut it without amplification. Again, a quality product but not quite what I was hoping for as a musician. ... show more
