Top Amazon Reviews

  • Absolutely fantastic, already looking forward to next year's.
Our family (two adults and a 10 year old) chose this advent calendar to do together. It was not advertised to us, we found it by searching Amazon, and we paid the regular price for it. I rarely write reviews, but this advent calendar earned one. We are all absolutely thrilled with it thus far. I am SO impressed with the quality. My child and I do quite a few "science kit" things, because he enjoys them, but I usually find them lacking in one way or another. Compared to other kits we've done, on the whole, here are the things that I am really appreciating about this one: - Instructions are clear, engaging, and well-written - Supplies are good quality - Supplies are all/nearly all provided, and in ample quantities (hooray for being able to repeat experiments or change variables!) *and* it notes if you need to save the extra for future experiments. So far, we've only needed to add water. - Experiments are fast, fun, exciting, and fairly unique. - Specimens are nice quality and interesting to learn about - We are all equally excited to see what each day brings -Cardboard packaging rather than extraneous plastic -Excellent price point, high value compared to most similarly priced sets/calendars Most of all, if you've done even one poorly designed home science experiment kit, you know how frustrating it is to have to scrounge up ingredients you don't normally use, or fuss with flimsy pieces that won't hold their shape, or figure out badly translated instructions, or do complicated chemistry setup steps/wait hours or days between steps that you don't know about until you are halfway through the instructions while disappointed children fuss about wanting to see their results. This is the opposite of that kit. Get one. You'll like it. ... show more

  • Adult Chemist Here
Style: Science Advent
I'm 40yr old. I don't have children. I have been a chemist for over 20yr - I go to work and talk about and do science all day, every workday. My husband bought this advent calendar for me this year. It has been fun to do. The experiments are well planned, instructions are clear and they work well. The equipment provided is good quality for the number of times you will use them. I would recommend doing the experiments over a plate or baking sheet for easier clean up, especially if the researcher is someone who is still developing their fine motor skills. The gem and fossil and stone specimens are also of good size and quality. Overall, well worth the $1.67 per day ($40/24 days), and way better than some crappy chocolate. ... show more

  • AMAZING!
This advent calendar is so cool! I highly recommend purchasing this. We bought this for our seven-year-old daughter and she absolutely loved it (as did my husband and I). The experiments are very easy to do, yet are super cool (and thought-provoking). Everything you need to do the experiments is included with the kit! There are extra "ingredients" included so you can do the experiments more than once too. Such a fun and interactive calendar to count down to Christmas! ... show more

  • Kids are loving it!!!!
Style: Science Advent
My kids are loving this count down! To be honest, it would also be great as fun way to do science experiments. My kids are sharing it and so far, they have given enough supplies to do each experiment multiple times. I will say, one thing I missed, it to save the supplies and mixtures they give you. You will use these items for multiple experiments. The instructions can be a little hard for my kids to understand at times, so a parent may need to help and look to the pictures for further instructions. Quick update… my kids still love this countdown. We have had a few items/experiments come out of order compared to book. No big deal, everything is there and we are able to find it in the book. ... show more

  • Update: son loves it so far
Style: Science Advent
Update — We are about 10 days in, and my son (almost nine) says this is the best advent I’ve ever done for him. The non-experiment days are definitely less exciting, but the experiments are all pretty fun. ——- I opened all the days of this advent calendar last night, so I could transfer the things to my own advent calendar thing that we always use. Initial impressions - - my son will probably be excited about the days he gets a little experiment to do, and much less excited about the days where it’s just a stone. Even though he loves crystals and fossils etc, it’s going to be a different vibe on those days (about 8 in total, and four in a row near the end of the advent). For those days with just a stone, I added a little chocolate treat to his advent baggie to open. - I thought WTF about the four days in a row just before Xmas, but maybe that is a blessing because parents will be busy just before the holiday and won’t have as much time to help with an experiment? - not sure if it’s all the sets or just mine, but some of the items were mixed up, in terms of what day of this advent calendar they were actually in, and how they were listed in the corresponding booklet. I sorted it out, into my own advent, but just be prepared for potential confusion if you are doing it out of this box. But overall I hope this is a good experience. I’m glad for an advent that is mostly experiences, not crappy little toys like we’ve done some years. And he is sort of tapped out on Lego advents. ... show more

  • Incredible Easy, Fun Science Experiments
Style: Science Advent
We used this set for an advent plus homeschooling science projects. I normally get overwhelmed by science kits but these experiments were easy, fun, and only a few steps. The mineral specimens and fossils were nice and very pretty. I like that there were enough of each ingredient to do each experiment more than once. My son’s favorite is the instant snow (he won’t let me throw it out). I highly recommend this even if you don’t use it for an advent calendar, just use it for some cool science experiments. Worth the money for sure. ... show more
