  • So Pretty!
Style: 8 Crystal Lab
So far we have only made two but they turned out great! I did the tip about covering it for 24 hours on the first day, I think it helped.

  • Crystal Growing Science Kit
Style: 6 Crystal Lab
The Grandchildren like it, its works for them so it's a good value for me. All the science kits I have got from National Geographie have been good.

  • Cool Crystals
Style: 8 Crystal Lab
Fun crystals to grow, I let them grow for about 2 weeks and they turned out really well. The only issue I had was removing them from the seed rock, I completely destroyed a crystal trying to remove it and didn't bother with the other crystals. The light up display is a cool idea and based on other reviews they turned out great, I just had troubles removing the crystals without destroying them. Photos were taken with a DSLR and a macro lens. ... show more

  • Super neat! (Some patience required)
Style: 6 Crystal Lab
I really thought this was pretty cool! My 6 yr old did also, but I did most of the work. I grew three at a time in pint glasses and let them grow on a shelf in my son’s walk-in closet (where I knew the cats couldnt get at them). Overall, super neat. I let them grow the full 7-day period. So, be patient! Definitely get out all the supplies you will need before conducting all the steps. I highly recommend setting up the area beforehand, too. ... show more

  • Fun , easy, educational. Don't recommend for too young kids who don't have patience.
Style: 6 Crystal Lab
This was a gift for my 9 year old for Christmas. He liked it, easy to do and the crystals mostly did great. Out of the 6 , only 1 didn't grow very well. Unsure why. Be aware the light up device only holds 5 crystals, not 6. The instruction booklet is outdated. It sent you to a video link that doesn't work, but it's easy enough to youtube "national geographic crystal growing". Another point is that the video instructions conflicted with the booklet. One said "grow in the dark".. the other said "grow in the light/warm room".. In the end we did half the batch like the video and the other half like the booklet. It was a great learning experience in experimenting and teaching my son to observe which was 'better'. The box also contained just 2 plastic containers.. but we used glass cups from our kitchen since you have to wait 7+ days. We experimented which did better in the soft plastic container v.s. glass cup.. ... show more

  • Cheap corner cutting
Style: 8 Crystal Lab
Honestly, this one was a disappointment. They give eight crystal bags, two cups, one spoon. We had to improvise for a group. Are they so cheap now they can't provide eight silicone cups? Eight wooden spoons? I had to waste my good canning jars. There's a sheet with tiny print instructions and some sample crystals with nothing written about them except a little blurb on the box. This could have been way more engaging and educational, with a much nicer and robust instructional sheet or better, a bound booklet the kids can keep and reference. It could have gone further into the science of how the crystals form. Overall this was a disappointment. The only cool thing they spent on was the plug in light up base. That's pretty sweet. ... show more
