Mine actually got lost enroute to me... Months later low and behold it shows up... It's a beast, I won't lie. It's a little tricky to use if you aren't able to get down low and really get in the weeds but boy oh boy it is effective. You will feel like you're some kind of assassin in Japan circa 898-909 AD. This sickle is a small-medium sickle that is easy to hold and use to cut down grasses, heavy weeds, and thick cultivated grasses like lemongrass or sorghum or other grains. The blade isn't sharp like a knife, but it is sharp enough to cut down the grasses with the momentum of sweeping the blade side-to-side. This is a tool that should not be used by anyone with grip strength issues, because it is top heavy and the handle does not have anything at the end to keep it from flinging out of your hand if you hit a snag or your grip gets tired. Also, don't use this if there is anyone else around you including children, adults, pets, wild animals, or parked cars. I wasn't really sure what to expect when I got this, but our yard was seriously overgrown so I figured it couldn't hurt to try. This little thing is truly amazing for clearing overgrowth. Cuts right through that stuff with almost no effort at all and makes very short work of it too. Smooth sweeping motions work best and also seem to make it much easier on you physically. Much better than trying to hack away at it in chopping motions that aggravate my shoulder or bust out the heavy, noisy weed whacker. I do wish it came with a real sheath, but the lack of one isn't a deal breaker for me either, especially at this price point. I've got other gardening tools that use similar clear plastic covers to protect their blades too. Highly recommend. ... show more

I got this to help me cut down overgrown grass from the hillside property and quite handy tool to have. Unlike gas powered weed whacker we rented, the sickle could easily cut weeds around other plants without damaging plants that are next to the weed. This Japanese weeding sickle is a handy garden tool for removing weeds or for harvesting plants with relatively small stems. It goes through stems 1/4" or less like butter, but it really has a hard time chopping through anything larger than that, or at least the tough end-of-season growth that I tried to cut down. I'm still learning to use this tool, but I really like it. I think it could be improved with the addition of a slightly longer, sturdier handle with a more ergonomic shape, and it might be able to handle tougher vegetation if the metal of the sickle blade was a bit thicker. I'm glad I decided to try this item out, since there's nothing quite like it in the usual North American garden toolkit. ... show more
