This is the PERFECT GHB (Get Home Bag) a form of "Bug Out Bag" or "Go Bag" for the non-initiated, the premise is that a Get Home Bag carries enough to get you home, ideally shouldn't weigh more than 20% of users body weight, did add external pocket to shoulder straps, GHB usually left in automobile at all times, until needed. I am a big fan of Mystery Ranch packs. I own two of them. When looking for a bugout bag, the Scree got my attention. Now that I have had it for more than a year it has proven worthy. Mystery Ranch packs are made of very durable material that is not only tough, but highly water resistant. The harness is well padded, adjustable and comfortable. The zippers demand a little extra tug. The trade off for the tug is that they are tough and rugged and highly water resistant. Both of my Mystery Ranch packs feature the unique three zipper main compartment which I learned to love. The top 2 zips access the main compartment from the top. Unzip the 3rd zipper and the entire main compartment is laid open. The top hood compartment is perfect for flashlights, battery chargers, and the like. Stuffed full, thoughtful compression straps squeeze the load down to a very manageable size. External water bottle pockets handle my 32 oz Camelbak just fine. What I love about the Scree is it doesn't draw attention. It just looks like an ordinary black back pack, yet it can carry a lot of weight and ride comfortably. I like this bag, specifically, I like the tri-zip - this is the reason why I bought this bag. A lot of my coworkers have a similar bag - made of heavier material and molle webbing. It’s a great bag but I wanted a lower cost alternative to MR’s 3-day assault pack. This is a lower priced alternative to the Mystery Ranch 3-day assault - it’s not as big, the material is lighter (easier to rip) and it doesn’t have all the nice accessories that the MR 3-DAP has. But it’s half the weight and it’s a lot cheaper.... As a commuter bag, or a lightweight trail bag, I think it will suit my needs. I wouldn’t throw it out of a black hawk, but I’d take it on a day hike. I coupled my purchase with an amazon credit card offer and bought the bag for a little over $100 (an irresistible offer and the bag, in my opinion, is a steal for $100...). The material is durable and at par with an osprey bag that I usually carry. I haven’t carried the bag in the rain so I don’t know how it will stand up to bad weather. Ultimately, I like the bag, a lot. I would recommend this bag and, based on the quality, I’d recommend looking at other mystery ranch products. Caveat, my bag came with a tag that said it was manufactured in Vietnam. I thought all mystery ranch bags were made in the US. This isn’t a deal breaker for me, but if it matters to you - check with the seller before you buy, to ensure that your particular bag is made in the US. ... show more

This pack is great. There is definitely one or two things I wish were different, but it’s a fantastic pack. First off weight disappears with this on, it does a great job of getting it onto your hips and off your shoulders. It’s very light and comfortable. Definitely on the larger side for an average day pack. I use this primarily for hiking or one or two day camping trips. I pack pretty lightly and normally use a hammock. With a minimalist set up and attaching items to the exterior of the pack. Pros : lightweight Great water resistance Excellent weight distribution Tri zipper is very useful with a stuffed pack Easy to attach additional items to exterior Cons: There isn’t a solid place to attach a bladder The packs material is thin, very durable for its weight, but still thin Tough to organize inside with only 2 large pockets Straps on this pack are long, definitely gonna need some ranger bands if you choose it ... show more

Purchased this pack to use as a winter day pack. At 32L, it provides more than enough storage to carry everything you need for a day hike, plus the extra items you need specifically for winter (additional layers, emergency shelter, extra water & food). The mystery ranch adjustable yoke system is famous for comfort, so it’s no surprise that this pack is comfortable. I almost forget I’m carrying it. If this pack ever wears out, I’ll purchase another one. It’ll probably outlive me…. ... show more
