Top Amazon Reviews

  • Decent mic for the price.
Alright round two for this review, I wrote a nice review... then amazon didn’t process it. End of rant. So, decent audio quality in my honest opinion is a very important thing to have... whether you are vlogging for YouTube, making films, or shooting weddings... people are more likely to tune out due to poor audio quality than poor video quality. That being said finding decent microphones can be pricy. Well I discovered the Moukey MCM-1, and well for a little over 20 bucks, it’s a decent little mic. A lot of reviews I’ve seen or read have said the mic had some reverb, or sounded canned.. but I didn’t have any issues at all to be honest and was really impressed with what I found. One thing that stuck out to me was the box it came in, it was built nicely. I know, I know... what does this have to do with the microphone, well it is just nice to know that this company takes the time to Package the product decently. The box was definitely tough and in a day and age where packages get tossed around like frisbees, I felt safe knowing the contents would be safe and not crushed. Opening the box I noticed that everything was packaged tightly in the box, giving it a little shake nothing really loved around... again a big sign of comfort. The mic itself is made of a metal casing, it definitely feels decent in my hand (get your mind out of the gutter.) it didn’t feel cheap, in other words, with a price point as low as 20 dollars I was half expecting a plastic case. It comes with a shock mount which is made of plastic... and it’s very rigid. Now of all the items this mic comes with the shock mount feels cheap, I honestly thought I was going to snap it in half when putting the mic in there but it went right in( ... get your head out of the gutter)! The mic! It comes with two cords, both are 3.5mm one is trrs- meant for cell phones or tablets, the other is a trs which is meant for dslrs or computers. It also comes with two wind screens, a dead cat which is kind of limp... (... I’m not even...) but DOES work. It fits on there well, and does a decent job. Although in very high winds I noticed it does rub against the mic which can cause some unnecessary noise. But you shouldn’t be using it during a wind storm. The other is a pop filter which is was really nice and again felt like it was made of quality and held up against a lot of elements. It’s just nice that Moukey includes all these as most mic companies seem to nickel and dime you for accessories. Out the gate you really don’t need to really buy anything for this, which is nice, kudos to you Moukey. Now I did compare this to the rode video micro which would be the equivalent. Now, it’s no rode... but it did hold its own and for a little under 20 dollars.. I’d say... put it in the cart. I have this mounted on top of my panasonic G7. It’s definitely better than the on camera mic. So whether you are a film maker, or YouTube novice, or you just want something better than your on board mic, this is worth looking into, especially for the price. I use it as a scratch track when I film my movies (I usually record audio separately.) it picks up the surrounding audio better and helps me easily sync audio from a separate source to the camera. As always this is my opinion, pick it up for yourself and give it a try. ... show more

  • Almost spent $60, then $40. Happy I didn't.
I set out microphone shopping intending to buy the RODE video micro to connect to a laptop as a temporary solution to COVID-19 related live streaming we had to do at church for a few months. I didn't want to spend too much and thought the $60 RODE mic would be a good temporary solution. That's when I stumbled upon another mic that looked basically identical for $40 with tons of reviews. So, naturally I headed to checkout feeling great that I had saved the church budget $20. Except the mic was out of stock and wasn't set to arrive until a week and a half later. I needed the mic sooner. Thanks to Amazon's wonderful suggestions I found this mic and pulled the trigger. I've handled the RODE video micro in the past and I honestly couldn't tell how this was different than the $60 RODE. The vibration reducer was different in shape but not worse in a way that will impact what I'm going to do. This mic is built solidly. It is made of metal and feels heavy in the hand. I tested the cardioid pattern on this mic and it definitely picks up less sound behind the mic (which was a necessity for me). It worked great immediately out of the box (nice magnetic closure box, by the way). I went from spending $60 to $40 to this and I don't think the mics are any different from each other. Save your money. Buy this one. CONS I hate reading reviews that act like a product is perfect. This one isn't perfect. It IS the one you should buy but it can improve. 1. The mic comes with two different cables depending on what you are plugging the mic into. One is coiled and will stretch out if you need it to. The other is short, stubby, and has no coil. Of course, this is the cable I need. I wish they were both coiled and stretchable. I do like how they labeled which end of the cable should plug into the mic and which end shouldn't. It will help a lot of people from thinking their mic is broken. I've made that mistake in the past with other mics. 2. I doubt the deadcat that comes with this mic will actually do anything in the wind but I'm happy to be proven wrong. I'm using it indoors so I didn't actually test it. 3. I don't know what to write here but it felt wrong to only list 2 cons. Maybe all mics should include a mini tripod or something??? Are you still reading this? Basically this is the mic you are looking for and you should buy it. Have a great day. ... show more

  • Directional microphone does a good job filtering ambient noise
I have a quality mirrorless camera whose internal microphone is surprisingly good. But I wanted to add an external mic to my kit and one that when mounted on the camera was more directional - eg would not pick up ambient noise from behind the camera. My test was subjective and I set the camera up in front of and facing away from the television and then videoed myself talking while standing about 20 feet in front of the camera. Testing with the camera's internal mic, the sound of the TV made it very difficult to hear myself talking. Testing with Moukey mic mounted on the camera was dramatically better with my voice losing a little fidelity but easily heard with the TV noise greatly subdued. Overall I was very pleasantly surprised at the improvement, the build quality of the mic, the small size and the easy mounting. I have no doubt there are better mics for a lot more money but this one provides high value for the money and I recommend it. ... show more

  • Mic Quality
Great mic sounds good and picks up sound very very well, had to exchange original due to it not recording sound, haven’t had that problem from replacement though

  • Its SO SO
I honestly cant tell any difference between this mic and the onboard mic of my camera or phone. I have ordered the newer powered version, and will hope that is the issue.
