  • Waste of money!
This does not do a good job restoring anything black. A friend of mine just told me he bought it and said it is not good. So I turned him onto a discovery I made by accident. I use a Silicone spray to protect the rubber around the doors of my car. I accidently sprayed some on a black part of the car that BACK to BLACK was suppose to restore and the silicone spray turned it jet black, so I wiped it off and it stayed black, I said holy crap. So I used it on my bumper, I now have a new bumper and it's stayed that way for weeks so far. I used DuPont Silicone Spray. • WARNING
It makes plastic look good and I am a big fan of mothers but when it gets wet from rain or a wash it runs and makes a mess could not and would not recommend

  • Looks great just after applying
Looks great just after applying. But it virtually all disappears after the first time it is rained on. After the rain, it leaves bad streaks on the black plastic. Horrible product and I will not buy again.

  • Restored the molding on our older Jeep Wrangler!
The Back to Black worked awesome on restoring the molding trim around our older Jeep Wrangler. We applied it after shaking really good by massaging a liberal ammount on all the plastic pieces that were oxidized and let sit for a few hours. Came back with a soft cotton cloth and buffed it out. The trim around the front tires required a 2nd coat most likely from being near the engine and getting hot but after the 2nd coat, it looked just as good and the rear trim. Am very happy with the results and will continue to use this product when needed in the future... ... show more

  • Follow the instructions
I found this to be no better or worse than other automotive plastic restorers I've tried, though it is a thicker consistency, so it was easier for me to control the dispense amount, compared to a thinner liquid. Best advice is to follow the instructions on the bottle for best results. I think if you are experiencing streaks, you may be too stingy in the application of this product. When I used a more liberal amount, I didn't experience any streaking. Worked fine on newer black plastic, so-so on old weathered black plastic, though it did improve the appearance somewhat. :) ... show more

  • Have to work it in. But worth it. 8 year plastics look awesome!
First let me start by stating that I give my honest review. I am not compensated same. I followed the directions. I first cleaned all my plastics with Mr. Clean, water & a sponge. After it dried, I applied Mother’s Back To Black with Mother’s applicator sponge which I bought separately in a two pack. All I can say is WOW!!! It turned out better then I anticipated. It took me a few hours. Anyone who owns a 2012 Nissan Xterra like me, knows how much plastic they have on them. You do have to use a little elbow grease and work it in. Some of my 8 year plastics came up right away. The top of the back bumper and the oval door trims needed three coats (it went on easier after the first one). And between coats I buffed it with a microfiber cloth. Make sure you buff everything with a microfiber cloth after applying and it dries. Everything turned out great. I even did the plastic braces for my top roof rails, faring on the roof, back of my mirrors & front grills. Wow!!! Even though they said it is best if used on black trim, it still came up dark and awesome on my gray trim. Made it a nice darker gray, almost like when I purchased my truck years ago On the photos you can see how sun beaten the piece on top of the back bumper, and the oval door moldings were. Night and day. I have never done anything with the plastics on the outside of my truck. I did the whole outside and still have plenty of product left. It went a long ways. The only downside so far, use extreme caution using on the plastic of your step rails (running boards) & the steps on the sides of the rear bumper. With any kind of humidity or moisture, they become EXTREMELY SLIPPERY! A day later and still looks as good as first done. I don’t know how long it will last. But at least I have something on there now to protect with winter coming. If it lasts long or has any issues, I will update this review. ... show more

  • there is no magical cure in any of the trim restorers and...
i have tried a variety of 'plastic and trim' products - none of them perform the miracles that the manufacturers claim. i gave it four stars because it is better than some and no worse than others.

  • Worked as expected
This product worked as expected. After reading some of the negative reviews I was hesitant to order this product but I liked the price and have had good results with other Mother’s products in the past. My Avalanche sits outside year round so it has plenty of exposure to sun, wind, rain and snow. I wash the vehicle weekly and wax it 4-5 times a year so it’s in good shape but the sun takes its toll on all the black plastic surfaces. I have regularly use some type of restorer for the plastic on all my vehicles, so they’re not in bad shape to start with. I did a thorough washing and drying of all the plastic then followed the directions on the Mother’s bottle and it worked fine for me. I haven’t had problems with uneven coverage or the product washing off with car washes or rain and it’s been on for about 2 months now. ... show more
