  • This sand saved my plants from gnats!
I had an infestation of fungus gnats in these two beautiful plants because of overwatering. I tried several different ideas I found online to solve the problem, and nothing worked. That is until I put a 1/4 inch layer of this sand on top of the soil. Voilà! Fungus gnats gone! The reason it works so well is that adult gnats can't get down into the soil to lay their larvae, and when the larvae hatch, the new baby gnats can't get out past the layer of sand. The sand doesn't prohibit watering, it just takes a little bit of time for the water to go down into the soil. If you are having trouble with fungus gnats, this is your solution! The black sand looks so good too. ... show more

  • Looks good
The media could not be loaded. I need something to go on top of the soil for my house plants to help combat the frigging gnats and after a bit of research this was suggested. So for so good plus it looks like glitter with no smell and doesn't seem to interfere with watering or drainage.

  • Get this to control gnats!
I tried everything to rid my newly purchased plant of gnats and I couldn’t do it, every time I watered a new batch hatched. I tried vinegar, soap, cinnamon etc. until I saw someone commented on an indoor plants post to try this! I’m so glad I did. It completely got rid of the gnats because if it’s on top of the soil they can’t enter or leave the soil. Awesome!! A little goes a long way. I’ve covered all my indoor plants with it and I’m so excited I can use it when I bring it plants to overwinter. Buy this you won’t regret it!! ... show more

  • It's sand
It's sand and it works like sand. I'm using it as a top dressing to keep away fungas gnats on my plant. Only thing to note is that the black sand looks more like a dark green/brown. Not a true black.

  • Works
I had gnats in my dirt indoor plants. Put this on top of the dirt, plugged the bottom breather vents with duct tape. Boom! Bugs gone in no time! 😊

  • Nice quality sand
I use this as a top layer on all my houseplants. Looks good and keeps the gnats away. Very fine density and not too shiny. Doesn't clump so plants still easy to water.

  • Does look a bit green
It’s very sparkly and does look a bit in the green side rather than black maybe it’s reflecting green from the plants because of the shiny-ness, bc in the bag it’s black. Bought to try to deter slugs from my plants. It didn’t help with that.

  • Soil topper
I use this sand as a soil topper on my house plants to deter soil gnats and it is the ONLY thing that has ever worked. I put a little less than half an inch or so on the soil, when I water the plants I simply place them in bowls of water until the sand is damp then I know they’re fully watered. This doesn’t disturb the sand. For my much larger pots I push the sand away a bit and water from the top. I haven’t seen a bug in my plants in 2 years. ... show more
