  • Quality item
Really a great item for the price, great value, very pleased with this item

  • Sturdy
The bad is it has rough edges in the assembly parts and does not fit standard TEE nut. I like that it is sturdy, the cross nut thread is tight on traverse rod threads. I feel that is very important. It can be squared up during a set up. The working surface looks great. I purchased for drill press center alignment and can already see it will work great for that. Plan to mount a small drill vise to the top and will have the TEE slot table below if needed. Also plan to shim up the race for a little more clearance in the dial. I recommend this as it was the only one I could find in this form for any price. On mine 1 revolution dial turn is around 2mm although the dial is segmented 0 to 4. Fit perfect on a Central Macinery 12 speed, 10 inch benchtop drill table. ... show more

  • It's a not bad low budget tool, but you'll have to put in some work.
This isn't a negative review, just a caveat so you know what to expect. The good news: you're not paying much for this XY table so, if you're on a home hobbyist's budget, it might be a good investment. And it can be a pretty good addition to your shop if you're willing to put in some work. The bad news: Mine was pretty much unusable out of the box. There was about a quarter turn of backlash in both X and Y handles, the slides bound up at various points during travel, and the travel dials were mere suggestions. What to do: If you want to invest some time, here's what I did to make it usable. 1. Completely disassemble and clean it, down to every screw. 2. Deburr every machined edge - and they will all have burrs. 3. Remove the gibs and check them on a flat surface, then remove the worst high spots 3. Lightly file the dovetail ways to get off the worst high spots. 4. Lap the ways (gibs inserted) with 500 grit compound to improve the fit. 5. Reassemble everything. 6. Adjust the lead screw bearings to take up as much backlash as you can. 7. Set the gib pressure so that the X and Y handles turn with difficulty. 8. Tram the table top to your drill press to make sure it runs true in both directions. Now you've got a pretty good XY table that will do semi-precision work, and you got it at a very good price and learned a lot about tuning up machines. ... show more

  • Better than expected
I read the reviews on this and kinda excited the worst, I could see it was completely fixable. Got mine took it all apart and really nothing was wrong I polished it up a bit put a shim on 1 of the bearings and adjusted everything as tightly as possible set it up. Works really well only tried couple small things. I do wish it was a little bigger. ... show more

  • The good, the bad, and the ugly of this table
I have never submitted a review before but this experience has been unique. I am a machine shop owner, engineer, and kind of handy with tools. (Not blowing my horn here, I goof up just like everyone else). I bought this as I needed a little x-y table for my basement workshop. It seemed robust from the description- I took note of another reviewer describing rough edges but that didn’t phase me as these inexpensive Chinese tools are often rather rough in nature. The good- the little table is solid, rather heavy, but well designed and as far as I can tell machined accurately. The parts fit together well (more below) and operates smoothly. About a 3”x3” travel. The bad- if you have ever bought Chinese small machine items, you would be aware they are made from the lowest grade cast iron available. I also have a Chinese lathe and small mill- same cast iron. It is very soft compared to tooling made in the US. But for home use, suitable. I let this pass. The edges on every part were sharp and rough- I expected this from another review and knew I would take it apart to clean it up. I let this pass too. The ugly- the table I got was put together all wrong. It was as if the person doing assembling was given a box of parts with no instructions. The Gibbs were dead loose- both ways rocked a lot. (Just an adjustment issue). The two tables moved in the wrong direction when turning the hand wheel because the assembly had the leadscrews reversed. Also one of the bearings was not installed properly and had to be replaced. I replaced all four bearings and problem solved. At the end, after spending some time, this is a really nice little table which is solid and operates smoothly. After cleanup and lubrication, all is good. I probably should have sent this back but knew the next one would need some work as well to clean it up. At the very least, would need to take apart and clean all the rough edges. I took this as a challenge to finish what should have been done at the factory. One final note- the x-y table is at 90 deg. That is a big deal as I have seen other Chinese products where the axis is not perpendicular. This one is. At the end, all ok. It’s a good table but be forewarned that it might take a little effort to clean up before use. ... show more
