I was trying to find a natural organic eye shadow that was not as expensive as the 100% Pure eye shadows and came across this product --Mom's Secret 100% Natural Eye Shadow, organic..." I ordered the Smokin' Plum and was very pleased with the lovely plum color and subtle shimmer, as well. However, I just discovered that one of the ingredients in this eye shadow -- Magnesium Stearate -- is NOT natural. Below is a comment that I found at the end of an article (Magnesium Stearate in Supplements - Is It Safe?), that was posted by someone who worked in a health food store for over twenty years. (Magnesium Stearate is an inactive ingredient that is added to many vitamin supplements). Here is the comment: "Just to clarify, magnesium stearate is NOT natural-- it does not occur anywhere in nature. It is produced by a high heat process that combines magnesium with stearic acid. Having worked in health food stores for over 20 years, I have heard enough people tell me that magnesium stearate causes them to have headaches, and their headaches went away after they stopped taking supplements that had mag stearate in them. My concern would be what effect does mag stearate have on your cells. How does it prevent material from adhering to the tabletting or encapsulation machinery? Why wouldn't it affect your cell membranes the same way?" This article that I found also states the following: "...some websites have cautioned that it [Magnesium Stearate] is potentially "hazardous" and "harmful." The reasons typically given are that magnesium stearate may adversely affect the gastrointestinal tract and the immune system. At the same time, magnesium stearate is generally recognized as safe by the FDA for use in supplements." With Magnesium Stearate also being added to eye shadows and other cosmetics, this ingredient will be absorbed into our bodies through our skin. Personally I do not want to take that risk. No, as lovely as this color is, I cannot recommend this eye shadow, which is why I gave it only two stars. ... show more

    • Gorgeous colors and smooth texture!
I bought this eyeshadow with the purpose of seeking an organic product bc my skin has become hypersensitive to cosmetics though the years. I love the silky texture, the vibrancy of the colors, how smoothly sets on my eyelids, and how lasting remains on. The allergy part? I’m not so sure if this eyeshadow is also triggering those allergic episodes, however, I really like it!. I recommend it. ... show more

The product itself is a good product, however, the condition that the eyeshadow was in when I received it....was a complete mess! Broken into a hundred or more pieces! What a disappointment! Not sure if I'll use this vendor again..

Bummer of a start since that chunk that is missing in the picture spilled all over my white counter and sink 😐 after I cleaned Up the mess. If you’ve ever used charcoal...it’s similar to that with glitter added. It went on smoothly...I’ll update after a week or two of use. Update 8/3/19 crumbling even more :( see second picture ... show more
