It's a great, wide 'lumbar brace' & works well for added lumbar support. With my experience of a work accident, heavy equipment cumulative trauma before & after due to Dr. misdiagnoses, (3) four level lumbar fusions, 1 surgery thru side to spine with wedge placed @ L3 for 3" pelvic tilt correction up on lf. side, T5 thru T10 thoracic spinal nerve cauterizations & literally 1000's of every therapy imaginable over 2 decades for chronic severe pain, a simple brace of any kind does not relieve pain. It definitely helps support full lumbar & helps to correct spinal posture. My goal thru continued therapy is to relieve pain symptoms, regain strength to FULL spinal & body atrophied muscles & get my life back. Fits nicely and stays at the firmness it started at. The moveable wedge can be moved to add additional support pressure to areas of severe pain. Especially in the sciatic area which is the source of a lot of pain and discomfort.

This review is a review of three different back braces, Modvel, Sparthos and Chanphy. For years I have been wearing a back brace, Mueller brand. I needed to replace it. It’s simply too big for me and I could not close it properly. Things got confusing because it appears Mueller only recently changed from having a one-size-fits-all belt to graduated sizes. Had I known this, I would have order a Mueller, either their small or medium size. I wear a 34-inch waist pants size, weigh about 162 pounds. I'm going to post this review with five stars on the Modvel sight, and one star on the Sparthos and Chanphy sights. To make a long story short, I took advantage of Amazon's free return policy and ordered three different brands, Modvel, Sparthos and Chanphy. They all are made the same way with three wrap-around Velcro closures. I do not believe, however, that the Sparthos and Chanphy brands have enough Velcro on the second to last strap. As a result, you can not close the Sparthos and Chanphy as tight as you can the Modvel. I've returned the Sparthos and Chanphy brands. They didn't close properly, at least on me, with a 34 inch paint size waist. I order 34 inch pants. My actually waist is closer to 33 inches. The Chanphy also had I believe unnecessary plastic buckles and unnecessary hard vertical stays. Maybe these stays are a good thing, but if they are, they do not make up for a lack of proper closure given the insufficent amount of Velcro on the wrap around strap. So if you wear a 34 inch waist paint size, my advice is to order the Modvel brand, their size, "regular." But next time around, I might give Mueller another look now that I know they have graduated sizes. ... show more

About 30 years ago I had my first sciatica attack. I got off a very long international flight and had severe pain from my back down my right leg. Walking was only acomplished with major pain. Healing took several months. From time to time since then the condition returned. Then about one month ago I was hit again. I went on Amazon and found the Modvel Back Brace. The brace arrived the next day and I put it to use. What a relief. I recently had a 38" waist but with some diet my waist size is now 33". I found this large size belt to be a perfect size to fit under my 34" pants. I had noticed without the belt my pain would shift through the day from manageable to nearly unmanageable. With the belt I stabilized my back and within about 2 weeks I'm able to walk cautiously without the brace. I use it for yard work and times when I expect to be on my feet for any longer period of time. I hope with continued cautious use of the belt I can return to nearly normal activity within the month. Thanks for a GREAT product that has been a very large help in reducing my sciatic nerve pain. I am 70+ years old. ... show more
