This was as great device to play with. You really do need to get a better SD card and immediately install Onion OS. After doing that this is a great device to play all those games you remember while on the go.

  • Great retro gaming fun in a small package
Style: Black
This is a review of the “Miyoo Mini Plus, Retro Handheld Game Console, with 64G TF Card”. There are lots of retro gaming handhelds out there. And, frankly, a lot of them are not worth the plastic used to make their shells. The Miyoo Mini Plus is something of a rarity - it’s a retro gaming handheld that’s really good. The Mini Plus supports games from (some) arcade games and console games from the NES generation of consoles up through the original PlayStation. And unlike many of the cheap retro handhelds out there, the Mini Plus is powerful enough to run most of these games at full speed (or near enough to full speed to not matter). The controls on the system are great - the manufacturers didn’t cheap out here - the buttons and D-pad feel good and are responsive. Trigger buttons are on the back of the handheld. Given the small size of the handheld, they work pretty well. The Mini Plus packs a 3.5” 640x480 4:3 screen which looks very good (the pictures don;’t quite do it justice). While it’s not the absolute best screen I’ve seen on a handheld, it’s among the better ones - good viewing angles, adequate brightness, and good color. A screen protector is included, though it’s just a little bit too small to cover the whole front (though it does cover the actual screen - the main issue is it’s a little harder than it should be to position the protector. Tip: Have the system on and displaying an image when you go to put on the protector.) The system is easy to set up if you’re a novice - though you can actually tinker with it if you like. To get the Mini Plus up and running: take it out of the box, charge it with the included USB A to C cable, and turn it on and you’re ready to game. Simple Games? The 64GB microSD that comes with the system is packed with games, so you’ll definitely have something to play. There is some free space on the microSD card for you to add more games if you like. Thankfully, there are search and favorite functions to make it easy to find the games you want to play. There is a card reader to make it easy to copy games to and from the Mini Plus (everything is stored on the microSD, so you might want to back up the microSD when you get the system). So … should you buy? If you are curious about retro gaming and want a small but still capable device for retro gaming, then yes … this is a very good small retro handheld. It’s also easy to get up and running if you’re new to the world of retro gaming. Recommended. ... show more

  • Ready to go out of the box, best fit for small hands though.
Style: Black
So it comes with a full sd card, it's ready to go but you might want to dig through those games to find what you actually want. So this is a Miyoo Mini Plus being sold by another seller. The best part of this is that there is a fairly sizable community offering help and additional products like a carrying case that this listing claimed but did not include. It's actually a bit smaller than I remember a regular game boy being, but the screen does end up being slightly larger than a game boy advance. It's got a mono speaker that can get quite loud but can be blocked by your palm very easily. The screen is fantastic. Between the backlighting, the resolution, and the software display settings courtesy of retro arch this is about as good as some handheld classics have ever looked. Big thing, I didn't trust the sd it came with or the OS for potential creepy trackers and such, so I changed it to something called Onion, an online search can help you find it. Did I need to? Probably not, but this upgrade improves the UI experience and lets you pick exactly what systems you want to be able to play instead of the scatter you get out of the box here. I've been playing some pc-98 games I had on hand and while emulation for this can be a bit of trouble the Miyoo handled it alright. Overall, I would have loved this as a kid but nowadays probably better for a quick nostalgia trip for an older gamer. ... show more

  • This might be THE ONE

This might be a nearly-perfect handheld. Miyoo clearly put a lot of care into this. First off, the outer box is really nice; the two nesting boxes feels high end. The machine itself is made of great materials - solid plastic, buttons that feel good and responsive to the touch, and no weird smells that you get from some of these. Ignore the typos in the manual. It seems to run on Linux, which is a real OS and not some junky shovelware thing, so it comes with all of the benefits of Linux and everything people have made for it. You'll get a ton of emulators, some of them weird. You'll also get a ton of games; they're mostly well-organized but a few are shoveled onto here with indecipherable names. You won't get any shovelware... except this also comes with a hilarious shovelware emulator. So if that's REALLY your thing and you want to play SAD PIG or whatever, you can dig into the system and find that too. There are a lot of menus, some of them are in other languages and impossible to back out of. I stumbled into one, and then all of the games stopped running, and the Game Boy games were 10x the size of the screen... but a hard reset seemed to fix everything. I'd consider that a system crash, but it's my own fault for messing around in deep system menus. This did not come with the carrying case in the listing, but that's okay as that's not important. However, of all of the systems I own, this is the most likely candidate for travel since it has SO MUCH on it, and it plays so well. You could explore this for a month and probably not see half of it. It's an endless box of mystery and fun. But no... I don't think it has The Simpsons arcade game, which is pretty much the holy grail of handheld systems. Don't waste your time buying 10 different cheap systems hoping for a good one; I'm pretty sure that this is the one that will have you completely covered. ... show more
