Very vinyl feel and smell. This hat is made up of triangular panels fused together, the very top where the panels come together in a point is roughly fused and looks like the navel in a orange. Time will tell if it will hold up under use, I have not had a chance to test the hat under proper conditions, but it appears to be functional if you can get past the aesthetics. I do like the the neck flap feature that helps to keep the hat properly placed on your head. I am basing most of my review on my impression of how the hat looks, I will update when it is properly tested in typhoon conditions..... don't worry that should not take long at the rate they are popping up on this side of the world. ... show more

Very liteweight, really like the effectiveness of this traditional fishing hat. My only issue was figuring out the correct size, I guessed on the smaller end and still came in a little larger, I would suggest the same thing to others, buy smaller than you think you need but it is a great hat all the same ... show more

Hat works well. I worked in the rain for several hours and my head stayed dry. I do wish the chin strap was a little better designed but no big deal.

Overall the hat is nicely made and does fit the head of the person it was ordered for but the rear brim is much too short and should have extended out further as regular sou'wester rain hats usually do. This brim allows, and almost directs, rain water to run down in to the collar of the raincoat too easily and defeats the purpose of the hat. ... show more
