  • Performed well, including heavy rain and wind ( - :
Color: olive
Foreword: I heavily researched "one man tents" before ordering the Mil-tec and it's important to keep in mind the price point, the intended use and the limitations involved. This category has slightly more space than a bivy-bag, but you can't sit up or read a book like a dome style tent. A three season tent was also sufficient. In addition, I fully inspected the tent, the rain fly and all contents prior to departure. Everything was in order including the stitching. After setting and breaking camp three times in the same week in varrying conditions, you quickly learn the pros and cons of your camping related gear. Overall, the Mil-tec One Man Tent system performed well, including heavy rainfall on the last night out. This was deep in the hills of KY at a higher elevation which did include some protection by the trees. The wind was also strong on the last night, but strong wind and trees create a strange type of turbulence. The tent and rain fly didn't budge and I slept like a bear in hibernation. The olive green color of the material is a nice blend for a Spring/Summer wooded environment, but some sheen is present on the rain fly. This is likely part of what helps it repel water. This is a low profile system and can't be seen if placed appropriately. The tent alone does have some black, but most mesh screens are black. The tent pole pockets are also black and perforated to improve ventilation. The base or tub of this tent is a strong feature and kept me dry from run off and splash. I was using a footprint tarp, but rain will always find a way to soak things when camping. In this case, the interior remained dry and I had items placed against the interior of the tub. A side note on the actual shape of the tub is worth mentioning. There is an offset to the right to provide a place for a few things or if you are a right side sleeper, you will find the extra space usefull. Ventilation without the rain fly is fairly well distributed and is integrated into the tent pole sleeves with ample amounts avaible at the head, foot and side entry door flap. The mesh screens are effective for keeping insects out and the door flap zipper performed without any issues. Ventilation with the rain fly is drastically reduced however, but the extended portion at the entry point was very useful and sheltered my shoes/boots, lattern, etc. during sleep periods. There are three pop-up vents built into the rain fly that are helpful, but are limited to maintain protection from strong rain. They work as intended, can be velcro closed, but a helpful tip is to make a peak at the foot of the rain fly with a stick. It made a HUGE difference in the overall ventilation comfort and did not affect protection from the rain. (Why the manufacturer didn't integrate a solution into this is simply not understandable). It's such a simple fix and makes the tent system all the more effective. Just sewing another standardized nylon tab in the center would allow for a better option. A string and a stick woukd work wonders. My only real con and a very minor one at that is the cheap, thin nylon tie off lines for the rain fly. They work, but just replace them with paracord and be done with it. In closing, I would buy this tent again, especially at this price point and from the same supplier in the UK. They were very responsive during communications and the item arrived ahead of schedule. I know someone will ask if this tent system us too heavy for backpacking and for hikes less than 10 miles, I would say no. For longer hike, probably yes but it depends on you and all the gear you probably don't need in the first place. The morning of my last day out was partly sunny and even thru the heavy forestation, the rainfly dried quickly. It was a perfect morning to pack and rack the gear. I did miss reading in the tent before sleep, but I had nature to rock me to sleep. ... show more

  • Great tent!
Color: camo
A very high quality tent. There are many YouTube videos on this tent and it is a perfect size for one person. My only gripe would be the poles. You can immediately feel the heaviness of them. Don’t let that discourage you this tent is well worth the money. I’m 5’9” and I can sit up in this tent quite well. Another reviewer mentioned replacement poles cost $80. This is not true you can find two replacement aluminum ones for $20 here on Amazon. I will eventually replace mine with lighter aluminum poles. Update 2 days later: I immediately put up this tent when it arrived I left it up for two incredibly rainy and stormy days and night. Not one drop of water got in. One of those two nights I slept in the tent. Comfortable and dry. Condensation is a very minor issue however. 5 stars. Very impressed and happy with it. ... show more

  • Close, and good, but no cigar
Color: camo
Not bad, but good. This tent is for sleeping in only! Inside is very small, NBD if you're sleeping; however, getting in and out comfortably is a challenge. Same with breathability. HOWEVER, It's got a solid bottom, the poles are minimal, it is easy to figure out and can be up in minutes. I took this tent with me for a 3 day get together in the winter of this year (2020) near Kalispell Montana. It rained, wind blew, and between 3 and 6 inches of snow also fell. Temps ranged between 38F and 0F. My tent froze solid twice; once the ice literally broke up and slid off. The second it froze my zippers. AGAIN HOWEVER, it kept me dry and warm. No leaks, no drips, just the venting causing icing. Look, I'm Flektarn crazy, and I love military gear. This isn't Mil-spec., Sorry Mil-tec. This tent is durable enough to call it worth buying, but there may be better options. I dont know, read the reviews, try one out. $100? I'd say maybe $50, to be honest and upfront. ... show more

I spent several days trying to decide which one to get “They all looked really awesome”. Winter is fast approaching and I could not make up my mind so I got all three. One Man Olive Green Recon One Man Mil-Tec Coyote Recon One Man Flecktarn Recon I really get nervous about ordering from overseas so of course I was a bit jittery and kept emailing to make sure everything would go smoothly, I even asked for copy of the shipping documents which they eagerly supplied. I have never experienced such superior customer service They even set me a photo of the package before they shipped it out and kept me updated almost every day until it arrived. I had some issues with the tracking number and they were right on point. Before I could even start to track the package again it arrived a month early, totally awesome! Still have no idea how a package can get from the UK to New York and about seven days. The tents are without a doubt the Best tents I own now, double stitched all the way, enough room for me and my gear, very low profile, and true to color in the photos “not like those other combat tents that show up in pink claiming to be coyote or tan” Took one out for a test run this weekend “flawless” I can’t wait for the snow. Highly recommended, Epic Militaria is the best!!. ... show more
