  • Looks cool, but for some reason not as effective as I would have expected
Style: Shaver
First, let me say the head shave definitely has some cool factor in how it looks. It fits nicely in the palm and looks less clunky than my pit bull head shaver. I bought this shaver after my pitbull platinum skullshaver stopped working all of a sudden. The pitbull skullshaver is supposed to be watertight so it can be used in the shower, but somehow a little bit of water was able to get in…I suspect through the button area where you turn it on/off. I shave my head daily and needed a new head shaver. I loved my platinum pitbull skullshaver but it was starting to act up a little even before the water seeped in. It would randomly turn off in the middle of a shave and tell me to rinse it out. It didn’t matter that it had been cleaned out after my last shaving session the morning before, and I had only made two or three passes with it when it stopped and told me to rinse it out. Never a problem for about 8 months prior to this. Bought new heads and this did not solve this issue. So, as much as I loved the result, I was getting pretty fed up with the annoyances. I wasn’t quite sure that I wanted to buy another pitbull skullshaver and have a repeat of these issues. I did a little research on head shavers and was frustrated that there really aren’t that many name brand head shavers that are designed to fit in the palm like the pitbull skullshaver. Its shape really is handy. That’s when I found the microtouch headshaver. I did a little more research on other head shavers but decided that this shaver might best suit my needs. That, and I was already familiar with microtouch brand as I had a nose hair trimmer by this brand and it had worked quite well for me before I upgraded to a nose hair trimmer that was sleeker; my microtouch version was pretty thick and I liked the sleekness of the Wahl brand nose trimmer with a lid which reminds me almost if an ink pen with a lid. Getting back to the microtouch headshaver….First, I will say that, in a pinch, this headshaver does the trick. It was able to shave my head and, eventually, get it smooth enough. However. Though it has five heads on it, and my pitbull skullshaver has only 4, it seems to take longer to shave my head than my pitbull skullshaver. I don’t know if it has something to do with the angle of the tines or angle of the cutting edge on the internal rotary blades, or if the slits and holes in the foils over the rotary blades just don’t catch the follicle/stubble to lift them up for the rotary blades to cut, but the microtouch just doesn’t seem to cut as well as the ones on the pitbull platinum skullshaver. It also occurs to me that the blades on my skullshaver are actually about a year old now and they still outperform the cutting efficiency of the, now 3 month old, blades on my microtouch. With the microtouch, I find that I have to really press down kind of harder than I should or would like on areas of my head with more contour, like the area just behind/above my ears where there’s the slightest little depression…it hates to cut that area. I have to keep going over this area, sometimes 20 or more times to get it to sufficiently cut this area and address the stubble in this area. This has never been a problem with my pitbull skullshaver. I shave everyday so it’s not like the hair anywhere on my head is just too long, but for whatever reason the microtouch requires some convincing to shave my head. I don’t like having to run over my head to many times as I can be prone to ingrown hairs; in my experience, the fewer passes necessary the better to reduce or prevent inflaming my skin. Too much pressure can also cause annoyances in my skin and lead to a rash of ingrown hairs too because it’s cutting the hair too short and letting my wavy/curly hair to buckle under the skin and cause Ingrowns. Again, in a pinch, thus product does the treatment trick. However, after about 2.5 months, the pitbull skullshaver I had put into a cupboard ended up working again when I pressed the button. My guess, the humidity/water that had breached the watertight seal and got into the circuitry had evaporated finally. I have decided to go back to my skullshaver again, though I will only start my shower to get my follicles wet and to soften the hair a little. When It is time for me to shave my head I just turn off the water and after about 2 minutes or less my head is fully shaved…the microtouch can take upwards of 5 to 7 minutes with about 8 to 29 passes over some areas. I wish my “watertight” skullshaver was still watertight, but I prefer the ease of shaving with it, even with its annoyances, to the microtouch. I’ll still hold onto the microtouch incase my skullshaver eber stops working again, but I’ll just be keeping the microtouch headshaver as a backup to my janky skullshaver. Also, probably my biggest peeve, it can’t be used in the shower. Thus one is likely my fault. I haven’t gone back to the product page again since buying the product, and I bought it probably 3 months ago, but if the product page says it can’t be used in the shower then I clearly skimmed over that in my excitement that I found something to replace my pitbull skullshaver ... show more

  • One Great Product!
Style: Shaver
The Microtouch Titanium Head Shaver is one great piece of grooming gear. I expected this product to work, but not very well since I have had bad experiences with other similar gear. But I was getting fleeced at my barber for head shaves every couple of weeks. So, I decided, "what the heck, I'll give this one a try." WOW, was I ever surprised! This thing not only worked, it gave me a better head shave than my barber, and he uses a hot towel, shave butter, and a straight razor! I'm so glad I don't have to go and spend money on head shaves any more! And I can "touch up" at home any time I want! As a result of my satisfaction with this product, I purchased the Microtouch Titanium Max, the nose, ear and touch-up trimmer. These products are on a another level! These aren't the similar but cheap products you see (and have probably purchased) at some store. I recommend both products 100%! NOTES: (1) Just because you still have some stubble left, doesn't mean you didn't get a close shave. Take a look at your head in a well-lit room...I still have some stubble left over, but the light reflects off my head like I had removed ALL the hair. No one looking at you would ever suspect you still had some stubble left over, and wouldn't care if you did! So what if it snags your T-shirts when you slip one over your head? Who cares? That still happened to me after a straight-razor shave at the barber! If you're still not satisfied, then...guess what? You're never going to be happy with ANY head shaver. Sorry. (2) Slow down! Sure, you can shave your entire head in five minutes with this product. That doesn't mean you should. Exercise a bit more care by shaving a little slower. You wouldn't try to set a speed record shaving your face with a straight razor, would you? Six or seven or eight minutes is still a lot better than fifteen minutes with another product. (3) Use circular strokes as you shave with this product...clockwise AND counterclockwise. That way, you'll do the "with the grain," "cross-grain," and "against the grain" strokes just like you would with a razor on your face. Go look at the YouTube channels hosted by "professional shavers" and watch how they shave. The good ones do THREE passes on their faces. Why? Because if they didn't, they'd still have stubble. No two men are going to have the same grain pattern on their faces OR heads! Heck, the hair on my neck grows in FOUR different directions! Start your circular strokes on one side of your head, low, just above the ear (like the guy in the video). Start towards the front of your head, doing clockwise strokes and slowly move toward the back of your head. Then reverse directions (slowly moving toward the front of your head)...only this time doing counterclockwise strokes. Let's call this a "path." Then do the same thing, only higher on your head (closer to the middle of your head). Repeat. If each path is of even diameters, it should only take three paths to do one entire half of your head. (4) This product works great without water, shave cream or anything else that's just going to clog up the blades and reduce both their effectiveness and lifespan. If you still insist on doing something extra besides shaving, then wash and towel-dry your head before shaving. (5) If you let your hair grow out more than a quarter of an inch, knock it back a little with clippers (electric or manual) before using this product. Make sense? (6) This is a great product, but it's never going to be better than the person using it. If the person using it tries to be a speed demon, or doesn't use the product with common sense, then...guess what? You're never going to get a good shave. And remember, the Microtouch Titanium Head Shaver can shave your face, too (I think your face is part of your head, isn't it)? It's a good touch-up tool. I "wet shave" with a razor, but then use the Microtouch to get rid of "five o'clock shadow." ... show more
