This Natural Ebony Wood Cane .82" OD weighs in at 16.5 ounces not counting the rubber tip. This is 50% heavier than an Ash Wood .95" OD cane of the same length that I used for comparative purposes. The coloring is exactly as shown in the photograph, dark brown and brown. It appears that no stain has been used and that this is the natural wood color coming through. The wood is very dense as shown in the above comparison to Ash and by removing the rubber tip and scrapping it down to bare wood revealing the same colors. The clear coat finish is excellent. Based on the coloring and density I guess this cane to be made of Mun Ebony (Diospyros mun) from Laos or Vietnam. The online Wood Database provided coloring, density and origin information. I can recommend this cane as genuine Ebony wood, solid and one piece, no joints. I find it interesting and beneficial to be a participant in international commerce.
