The media could not be loaded. This is my second wood cane, and I'm extremely pleased with it. Made of ash, it weighs a good bit less than my other one, but it's still substantial enough for me to not be worried about stability. The thick grip does add about an inch and a half to the overall height, so even if you measure based on an existing cane, be prepared for your grip to be slightly higher--but not so much that it affects your balance. For first-time wood buyers: you do NOT hold these the way you hold aluminum canes, with your weight on the handle. Instead it goes on the large part of the grip and straight down into the body of the cane, as I demonstrated. Aluminum flexes, wood does not. I cannot wait to gift this cane to my brother as he was named after Daniel from the lion’s den and now he has a Lion Cane. My brother injured his leg - so this cane will come in handy! The VA gave me one of those metal ugly canes. If I have to use a cane I want it to have a bit of class. This cane is well made and very light weight. I get complements all the time. I'm a big middle aged man. I need to use a cane but I'm tired of the standard, ugly pharmacy cane so went in search of something more stylish. Unfortunately cool looking Canes are usually impractical. Poor grips or weak construction. I wanted something strong, comfortable and beautiful and I FOUND IT! PROS + extremely comfortable right hand grip. I have a large hand and this feels like a custom fit. More comfortable than the rubber pistol grip on my old cane. + strong. I have to rely on my cane to handle significant load at times and so far it feels very strong. + modest weight. Some wood Canes can be heavy and feel like a tree trunk by the end of the day. This cane is fairly light without feeling cheap or weak. + it's beautiful. Better than the photos. The carving is intricate and smooth. The finish is gorgeous. The lion head looks great from any angle. CONS + it's a little pricey but I honestly feel I got my money's with. + the tip is plain wood with a rubber foot. I would have expected a metal ferrule to strengthen it but this is a quibble. If i keep a fresh rubber foot in place the ferrule will probably never be necessary. ... show more

Hand carved walking stick purchased as a gift for my brother who has balance issues. He was so happy to receive this, very particular in taste and quality and he felt so secure using this item. Our last name is Lyons so this made it extra special. He hates anything orthopedic looking and would refuse to use a regular cane. He got out of his chair and walked more this day than in the last two weeks. He even went outside and walked up and down his driveway. Money well spent.
