Although the wrench was not in the parts bag, it is actually attached to the tool, inserted on the side. My experiences with Planers is limited to industrial sized ones in a couple mills I work in when I was younger. These machines would flatten just about any sized piece of lumber or peeler core you could fit in them. So needless to say I have seen handheld ones but never used and didn't expect it to work very well. First of all it's not too heavy being made of mostly plastic but it feels very solid. I tried it out after looking over the instructions and getting the feel for how it turns on and how the adjustments work. I have several different sized 20V Batteries for Dewalt tools and all fit just fine and ran the tool. I tested it first on a piece of Oak I attempted to make a box from several months ago. When I say piece of Oak I mean a small log that I split using mostly a hand saw. So it's not flat at all on the split part. I tried the planer out and it took like 3 passes and I was down almost an 1\8" of an inch perfectly flat across the whole section. I think this tool will really help me be able to make other Projects rather than just the Primitive Mugs and goblets I make now. I have used it to make the rim of one of my cups nice and flat so it doesn't look like some caveman chopped it up with a stone axe. I have not tried the edge guide as yet but the little chamfer notch worked great. ... show more

I have been wanting a cordless planer for some time now, so I thought I would give this one a try. This planer is well made out of good quality materials. Fit and finish are good. Standard DeWalt 20v battery fits and works perfectly. The included blades are nice and sharp and cut cleanly. Includes a guide and dust catcher bag. Plenty of power. The media could not be loaded. This portable planer is great all around. Function - Great. The planer effectively removes stock and leaves a smooth even surface. The top knob easily adjusts cutting depth, included guide accessories will help edge guiding and keeping you flat if needed. Safety - Good. The tool has an integrated safety that needs to be depressed to activate the trigger, and a relatively quick spin down time. Nonetheless, this is still a profoundly dangerous tool because of the large cutting surface and lack of guard. This is just intrinsic to this type of tool, and not unique to this tool. For this type of tool, it's got acceptable safety measures. Chip and shaving control - Great. The tool vacuums up and controls shavings and chips very well. The control is 90-95% I would guess, and adjustable to either side into the included bag. If you attached it to a vacuum, you could get a little better. You are still going to need to clean up after using this tool, but it makes a surprisingly small mess given the amount of material removal. Comfort and convenience - Great. Comfortable handles and light weight make this tool easy to use. Value - Excellent. Great results all around at a relatively bargain price, and functions well with the batteries you already have. If you need a portable planer for your woodworking this is a great choice. ... show more
