  • Worked when Draino, Green Gobbler, Plungers, etc. Wouldn't
Color: 25 FT w/ Auto Feed
I should have taken before and after pictures, but I didn't, so here's the tale of my struggles with my bathtub drain, and how this snake solved them. Long story short, this worked where short plastic snakes, plungers, green gobler, and draino all failed. I'm a guy with long hair, so as time goes on and hair accumulates, I've had trouble with my tub draining before - it'll get slow to the point where I'm standing in water covering my feet. At this point, I'll typically grab one of the drain weasel plastic 2 foot drain snakes, which I've written reviews for before. They are super easy to use and grab all the hair really well. This time, I shove that down the drain pull up some hair, and go on with my day. However the next time I shower, I'm still standing in water. So I do it again. And again. And again. Nothing changes. I try to pull out a plunger and plunge the drain. Nothing changes. I buy Green Gobbler, follow the instructions, and it seems to work better briefly. Then, it gets worse. At this point, it takes hours to drain just a few inches of water. I buy draino, follow the instructions and nothing changes It is at this point that I also noticed that running my bathroom sink also now flows into the tub, leading me to believe the clog is further down the pipe than just something a short snake will be able to get. Enter: this 25 foot snake. I picked this one because the video made it look easy. I've never really used a snake like this before, but it seemed pretty foolproof, and turns out it was. First I tried shoving it down my tub drain - I couldn't because the end was too large. Then I tried pulling off the overflow/plug switch and feeding it through there. I got it a little way down but eventually couldn't get it to go any further. So, because my sink was also part of the issue I decided to feed it through there. It was pretty easy to feed down, spin to get around bends, and keep feeding. Eventually I got to a point where it just wouldn't go any further, but I kept trying for probably five minutes, and suddenly, the tub starts gurgling, and the standing water from earlier in the morning (literally from ten hours ago) drains away in ten seconds. Took me all of 30 minutes total which included finding a screwdriver, pulling off the overflow cap and puting it back on twice because I wanted to try again, and try all three "points of entry". Really once I moved to the sink, it was less than ten minutes and my problem was solved. This thing is great and I'd recommend to anybody who needs an easy drain snake that is a little more heavy duty than those 2 foot plastic ones. Great value, easy to use, quick, and it seems well made/durable. I couldn't be happier. It even came with a little storage bag to throw it in now that I'm done with it. ... show more

  • Easy to use, big savings by DIY!
First time buying and using a drain snake auger. I went with this one because of the mixture of price and features. This auger features a steel drum. While there could be potential rust issues with the steel I felt that the sturdier construction would be handy over plastic. The first thing I did was to remove the wingnut and it's mount and flip the pistol grip around so the finger groove is on the front. My favorite feature is the knob on the back has a nice flare to it to help grip it. That part in other snakes especially the plastic drum ones is just a little nub of a cylinder. The rounded flare on this one is key to holding it and operating. I found myself holding it with one hand by the knob and the other hand feeding the line. If it was just a little nub that would have been impossible. But with this knob it was secure even with wet gloves. Since it was my first time using a snake after watching a bunch of videos I decided to do it by hand and not use the drill attachment. If you are not careful when using it by hand you can run your finger into the drill attachment shaft. But it's easy to avoid so that isn't an issue once you learn to avoid it. This snakes head area is much longer and increases and decreases multiple times over the ones that are shorter and more of an open face coil design. I believe that this longer tighter head allows this snake to not get hung up as much and also get around corners better. In the videos I watched a lot of the other head designs would have trouble getting into even the first downward curve of the tub overflow. With this long head I was able to just bend it right in by hand. Make sure to use gloves and have plenty of paper towels and Clorox wipes on hand and a trash bag for the removed clog. When feeding in or out I kept a Clorox wipe in my feeding hand and cleaned it any time I backed it into the drum. With a little work and patience I was able to remove an unbelievable big, long clump of hair. Ran it twice more after removing the hair clog and cleaning off the coil. Both of the next 2 attempts came up clean. So the snake did an excellent job spiraling through and collecting it all. Again another great feature of the longer coil head this has. If you are having trouble removing the hair try bending the coils a little to remove the pressure in them but be careful as to not flick anything off. Plummers want like $400 in my area to run a snake or do a blowout! That's crazy! Take your time and learn how to do it right and anyone can do this by themselves and save time and money! It's already paid for itself with that one job and now it will hopefully last a lifetime! ... show more
