Features

  • PUT THEM IN A SONG RIGHT AWAY: anyone can play these claves, regardless of skill; their bright wood tone cuts through music nicely when struck together without blaring "clack" sounds
  • WHY IT MATTERS: their naturally musical tone can instantly change the feel of your music, even if you're not sure how to play them; add to songs live or in the studio
  • CATCH UP QUICK: one big reason our Classic Claves are so popular is they have identical shape and weight, so there's practically no learning curve; just hold them with a loose grip to let the wood resonate as you strike them together
  • DRIVING THE SOUND: made of solid, select hardwood with consistent grain and color to get a deeply resonant effect; our durable finish seals the wood while letting it respond fully
  • OF NOTE: Meinl Classic Claves are multi-use; they can be played in traditional Cuban and Afro-Latin music, contemporary styles, drum circles, and they're perfect in classrooms to teach students about rhythm
  • BY THE NUMBERS: sold in pairs, they measure 8" long x 1" wide and weigh about 3 ounces each; this size isn't too big or too small to fit your needs in most settings
  • THE BOTTOM LINE: there's no limit on where these claves will fit, and you just need a loose grip to get a great natural wood tone; they're easy to jam with, and their smooth finish is designed to last
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

Description

The MEINL Classic Hardwood Claves are the most common claves and produce the classic cutting sound with just the right amount of resonance. These Claves are solid and deliver a bright, pleasant tone that is fitting for any style of music and any musician, professional or beginner. For drummers, learning clave patterns that originate in African and Latin music is a great way to learn, understand, and apply poly rhythmic patterns to the drum kit. These instruments are vital for any percussionist that is looking to enhance their sound.

  • Priced right, sounds great, cuts through the music, and product is sturdy.
Style: Classic Color: Hardwood Configuration: Identical, solid
These have a wonderful pitch and need to be held correctly to get the full sound out of them. I mean it’s solid, yet light, higher pitched, priced right. You get a great product for the money. No need to spend anymore on a clave unless you have the money to spend and/or you are professional. Even at that point it still does a great job. ... show more

  • Decent sound and priced right
Style: Classic Color: Select hardwood Configuration: Identical, solid
I’m a classical guitarist, not a percussionist, but often use small percussion instruments in my ensemble for Latin numbers. Lost my ancient rosewood claves (or they walked off) and replaced them with these Meinl redwood claves. Apparently I misread the description—though I was buying another rosewood set—but ended up with redwood. They’re about half the weight of my old rosewood set but softer and less bright when played. My rosewood claves had a rounded bell-like timbre and didn’t have to struck are hard as the Meinl. With that said, these claves are okay: do the job, are priced right, well made and smoothly finished, but I’ll keep my eye out for a quality rosewood set. ... show more

  • Good Tonality and Durability
Style: Classic Color: Select hardwood Configuration: Identical, solid
I was helping at the Middle School and noticed their original Meinl claves were pretty kid-used beat up. Now for close to 20 years of use it was a good testimony to the rosewood (I assume) durability of the product. I purchased replacements and they arrived promptly. Good feel, good sound, stain doesn't come off on your hands. Meinl is a German company so you likely pay a few bucks for import, but I feel its worth it as I've used many of their products and only the shakers feel apart on me. ... show more

  • Great Sound!
Style: Classic Color: Hardwood Configuration: Identical, solid
I bought a pair of these claves for my music classroom because the ones I had kept getting taken from me. These were relatively cheap and I didn't expect much from them. They proved me wrong though! I am able to get a loud, clear, and strong sound from them. They are a little on the smaller side, which made me think they were going to be quiet but my orchestra has no problem hearing them over their playing. If they ever fall apart, I'll definitely be buying another pair. ... show more

  • Very different and a great choice for any percussionist
Style: African Color: Select hardwood Configuration: Small striker/large body, hollow
I love these claves. They are so different from the traditional salsa claves. These are actually known as rumba claves as well as African claves and they make a lot deeper sound and are less of noxious than the claves that are used in salsa. In addition, you can get to sounds out of these claves. One is a deeper pitch if you hit it towards the middle and the other is a little higher pitch if you hit it on the sides. They are much more versatile than the traditional hardwood claves. If you want to bring some different sounds to your ensemble, try these wonderful items. ... show more
