  • Be Careful What Shoes You Wear
You have to be careful with which shoes you decide to use this product. Some shoes work fine while others do not work hardly at all and it just falls out with excess force. Even with decent shoes this shaker takes some time to get used to how it feels. However, it sounds great and will add a lot to your cajón sound setup. Nonetheless, I remain curious about Meinl’s front-foot shaker design. I purchased the shoe horn design because I usually keep time by tapping my heel instead of my toe. I expect the front-foot design would work with every shoe but I’d be worried about it soaking up moisture on rainy days as the strap is in direct contact with the ground which could lead to mold in my stick bag. Perhaps an ankle shaker would be the perfect compromise as long as you’re okay with a different sound? ... show more

  • Great Idea That Doesn't Quite Work
The heel shaker doesn't stay put. The sound is wonderful and more pronounced than the toe shaker. I can control the sound by tapping the toe for a gentle sound or stomping for a bright tone. If only it would not fall over after a few beats! It can be altered by drilling two holes in the heal piece and tying it to the ankle with twine but this makes it quite difficult to take off between songs. I am going back to the toe shaker. ... show more

  • Sounds good, works well
It’s not the best sounding shaker I’ve heard, but it’s the only one I could put in my shoe. It does have a good sound though, it sounds like an instrument, not a kid’s toy. Highly recommended if you need it. Or even if you just want it.

  • Super cool!
I love this so i can make my own percussion hands free! Works best if i have a little higher boot , can also hold it in my hand if i want. Has a good crisp sound.

  • It's cool, but I just can't create a tight rhythm.
I really want to like this shaker. I like anything that's UFO shaped, and stuff that adds to my percussive possibilities excites me too! My main complaint is that it's difficult to create a tight rhythm. Because the shaker chambers are wider than they are long, there is a large surface area for the fill material to roll around in, the sound is sloppy when you just tap your heel. I've tried swiveling my foot from side to side but it's difficult to keep up a steady rhythm this way. The best way to get a sharp defined strike is to tip the foot back or forward and strike with the back of your heel or tip of your toe. The holy grail for me is to create a nice even 8th note or 16th note pattern "chucka chucka chucka" I haven't figured out how to do it with this one yet. You may be perfectly happy with it. It does work great as a hand-held shaker if all else fails. ... show more

  • Great Idea, but...
This flops around in the heel, and won't stay. I love the idea and maybe if I had tight shoes, or taped it to my heel, but I can't get it to work with my slip on shoes, which is disappointing.

  • It was sorta fun while it lasted
This did not work for me. I ended up using it as some suggested and placed it in between the tongue of my shoe and foot and was able to get a good sound out of it. It lasted for about 2 months. The saucer-like dishes that hold the beads broke while it was in my cajon bag during travel. I would not recommend it to a friend. ... show more

  • It is comfortable to perform with and sounds great
This is a cool little shaker. Beats putting a drum stick with a ball shaker in my sock
