  • Great little lens for a great price
First impressions were that it's a lightweight lens, but solidly built. This is my first Z lens on a Z body, so my comparisons come from living in the world of DSLR bodies with a variety of Nikon/Sigma lens. That being said, this is a great little lens for the price. It doesn't measure up to the $900 Sigma Art lenses. But the autofocus is sharp, the response time is solid, and other than feel of the plastic, this feels as solid as other lower-end third party lenses. No complaints. Unless you want to make a larger investment, this is a great way to go. ... show more

  • Great lens
The price point and the quality of this lens are excellent. The focus response is very good on my Z5 and at 1.8 the bokeh is very pleasing. The only downside I noticed about the lens is the size, it would be nice if it were half the size, as for the weight, it feels light.

  • Plastic Fantastic!!
Definitely on the plastic feeling side but produces great images. 1.8 is reasonably sharp.

  • This is a great lens for the price!
The lens arrived on time, well packed in a box with foam. In the box is a lens, lens caps (2), and a hood. The hood went on easily and locked in place. Mounting on my camera was easy, firm but not hard and it locked as it should. This lens isn't as heavy as some, has a nice plastic barrel that looks good. It is longer than a lot of 50mm lenses. The focus ring covers about half of the barrel, making it easy to find with your fingers. Autofocus is fast and accurate. The large aperture lets you take advantage of the fact that most lenses are best at three or four stops below wide open so that puts you at f5.6 which allows higher shutter speeds. Higher speed helps with sharpness. I like macro and closeup work so I was happy to find that this lens works well with extension rings. I have a set of Meike Z extension rings and they make it so the working distance is just a few inches. The closer you get, the bigger it looks :) Of course an extension ring doesn't affect image quality since it has no glass in it. The sharpness you see in the images is not reduced. My conclusion is that this is a good deal for a nifty 50 at this price. ... show more

  • Fantastic lens
I wasn't expecting much from this, but I was absolutely blown away by the quality of the shots I get with this.

  • Amazing lens, even better price!
This is the perfect low light lens, and it is one of the sharpest lenses I’ve worked with as a photographer. I would highly recommend buying this lens if you are on a budget and want an affordable lens for a decent price!

  • It AutoFocuses even in Manual Mode
Please be warned that the Meike 50mm f1.8 for the Nikon Z cameras has a bug in its Manual Focus. When switched to Manual Focus, it focuses manually perfectly. But when the camera goes into Standby mode, when you wake it up, it now does an Autofocus and ruins your focus. The switch on the Lens is in Manual Focus. Pressing the info button on the Nikon Z camera confirms its in Manual Focus Focus, but coming out of Standby mode it performs an AutoFocus. Crazy! Imagine having your camera on a tripod, you have it in manual focus waiting for a bird to land at the bird feeder, of course this can take several minutes before the bird lands, so the camera goes into Standby mode. The bird finally lands, you press the shutter to wake up the camera and take a photo, but instead the camera while in Manual Focus does an AutoFocus but doesn't actually focus and the Bird flies away. I contacted Meike support, they said that's normal. What? I'm what world of photography does a camera do an Autofocus while in Manual Focus????? And I also have the Meike 85mm f1.8, it doesn't do that. When it's switched to Manual Focus the camera does not perform an AutoFocus. My mind is still blown that Meike support thinks it's normal for this behavior. I won't be buying anymore Meike Lenses. ... show more
