Something I wish I knew before I pulled everything out of the box. The metal is greased. Thankfully, I put the metal poles on an uncarpeted part of my floor. So put together outdoors or on a floor that can easily be cleaned with a bucket of water and grease cutting dish soap. Learn from my stupid. The roosts are cheap pine, but out of 8 (I got the two pack) surprisingly only one came bowed and even then only slightly (top roost in the photo). The roosts are only 1” thick, so if it gets below freezing where you live and you have no heat source, don’t buy these. Your birds won’t be able to cover their feet when they roost. I’m giving three stars only because I needed extra stuff before I could put these in my coop. Waterproof seal and dawn dish soap to scrub off the grease. Both of which I had on hand. The space in between the roost bars are big enough where my big bird should be able to sit comfortably, which was another worry I had when I ordered. One of my birds is the size of a small Turkey (she is a leghorn mix, but I have no clue what the mix is, she’s big though), and if angled as shown in the photo, she fits well. In all, I think it’s worth the price. I jerry-rigged the two together to make an 8 foot long roost ladder and it is holding my birds well, with plenty of room if I get more (currently have 12). Long term, I can replace the roosts when needed by just getting 8 more wooden poles from Home Depot and reusing the metal sides. I didn’t want to have to pull out saw horses and a circular saw in January, to build my own, so this definitely feeds my lazy when I realized the roosts I had weren’t going to last until warmer weather. Went together easy and aside from having to scrub it down, as well as scrub my floor because I pulled it all out in my living room, I’m pretty happy with it (even if the wood was pre-weatherproof, I still would have went over it again, so I expected to do that when I ordered, only mentioned it so others who wouldn’t expect to have to since it’s meant for an outdoor coop, would know). ... show more

The wooded perching rods are a little smaller diameter than what'd I'd like. I might replace them with a larger diameter, or maybe 2x2, or 2x4. And, If I do decide to replace the wooded perch, I can make the ladder width shorter or longer. My chickens likes to perch on flat wood, than round. Assembly: I took this outside yesterday to assemble / install this. It was very windy, so as soon as I pulled out the instructions, it blew into the neighbor's yard, then down the alley. Argh ... But, putting this together was pretty much self-explanatory. I did end up with 4 screws I have no idea what they are for, (if only the instruction didn't blow away. lol.). Eventually my chickens will start to use this. ... show more

I was outside of the return date when it broke after 2 weeks of use. The company reached out and offered to make it right. Very happy with the service. Hopefully I can set it up to last a bit longer on my second go around. Lasted 2 weeks before one of the bars snapped in half. This is in my growout pen, so the birds weren't even fully grown. Installed Jan 30, broke Feb 15. The wood bars are just not big enough around. ... show more

Looks great, feels pretty good. Definitely worth the price. I will be cover our run with a large tarp, so hopefully it should last a while. Wood is a good thickness, the brackets are designed to go on this style of run and it works perfectly for it. Also comes with extra screws if you're not using the brackets. Will be buying another one for our other run. ... show more
