  • Very Informative on Medicare!

  • READ THIS FIRST!!!
I am a medical assistant and I bought this book to keep at my desk. Patients ask us all kinds of Medicare questions. When should I enroll and do I have to enroll if I am working? The timing chapter lists all different scenarios for someone turning 65 so I can review that with them. Then another good chapter for me is the one on living with Medicare. It talks about the differences in how Medicare works if you have a supplement or a Medicare Advantage plan. That sometimes helps my nurses figure out what needs to be done. The index helps me find what I need and there’s a web page mentioned in the book that lists all the updates. I might buy one for a doctor who is getting close to Medicare age. ... show more

  • Most info presented is already readily available
Unless you really have an edge case, you can find what you need to know by doing your own research on-line. And so the book appears more as a documentary on the subject. You wont use alot of the info that is in it.

  • Painfully boring & out-of-date information
This book really missed the mark and that's why I'm giving it two stars. I've read three books on the subject: this one, It's Not That Complicated, and 10 Costly Medicare Mistakes. Of the three, this is the one I'd say "Save your hard-earned money!" Reasoning: 1. Lack of internal organization: There's no step-by-step approach. -The book reads like a series of blog posts rather than a cohesive story. The chapter on Medicare Advantage / Medigap comes *before* the chapter on how to enroll in Medicare--how does that make sense? 2. Does not use current information. -No mention of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act's effect on Part D. -Charts are out-of-date. Does not use most recent information. -This book was published in 2023, why doesn't it use information readily available in 2023? 3. Too much detail. Some chapters drag on and on. -Very few stories or teaching moments to help the reader learn the subject matter. Medicare is dry enough already. 4. Overpriced. -I just didn't feel like I got a meal's worth of information. Left me wanting to get my money back. Conclusion: Don't buy this book. ... show more
