  • Brown switches for the win!
Once you start peeking into the world of mechanical keyboards, you will almost surely get overwhelmed by all the talk of <color> switches. Sadly all the YouTube videos in the world can't tell you what will fit your personal preference. You just have to get them and try for yourself. I guess I'm a brown switch girl. Red gave me no feedback and blue are just too noisy. These brown switches are the sweet spot! This keyboard has really nice action, springy keys with decisive feedback but no compromise on speed. In fact, I might prefer this one to my Apple keyboard, seems to actually make fewer mistakes. The fact that it comes with a key puller and extra switches is just icing on the cake. No, it doesn't have the pretty rainbow lights and I think I might need to invest in a separate numpad eventually (although the shorter length is very nice for my small desk), but for now this keyboard is hands down my new favorite! Update: I didn't realize when buying this it was the "cheapest mechanical available" LOL. If you ask me, that makes me like it more, I feel it's a really good value. I went down the rabbit hole of changing the switches, etc. If you want to learn that hobby this might be a good board to practice on, since it wouldn't be so devastating if you screwed it up. I say "might" because the stock switches are not at all easy to take out without damaging them, and I have to wonder if more expensive boards make it easier. I'd like to know who the brilliant person was who designed the switches so you have to grasp them on a side with a very flimsy tab that is incredibly easy to bend/break. This board comes with 5 extras, but if you can pull the stocks out without destroying more than 5 you're probably ready to move onto a more serious board (fortunately replacement switches are very, very inexpensive). I'd say be gentle, but there's no gentle about it. In fact, I feel like this would be an outstanding practice exercise for any aspiring dentists. In fact, I gave up on my top row completely because it's just too hard to get the tool between the key and the edge of the board. But I finished the job and feel like I've learned a new (probably mostly useless) skill. It's definitely nice to have the option at this price point. Still feel like I got a great deal. ... show more

  • Great budget board
Color: Blue Switch(White)
Was rooting around on Amazon for a cheap keyboard to turn into a painting project & accidentally stumbled into the love of my keyboard life. I like blue switches because I'm insufferable, so ymmv. Pros: -Fond of the backlight. I love single-color backlights & the teal on this is SOOOOO pretty, especially at the lower brightnesses, which is what I prefer anyway. The RGB sides are a nice touch; I like a little rainbow on my desk without being too ~gamer~. (I'm a writer.) -Love the layout. Size, key placement, everything's intuitive & not cramped or too spread out, and the extra space around the edges is actually why I picked this one but it gives it such a cool retro look. -The switches actually. I love blue switches, but a lot of blue switches in the lower price ranges aren't actually clicky enough/don't have a heavy enough spring, so yes they're loud but they're not the right amount of tactile. These aren't as grating as Razer greens sound-wise, but have a similar (if not even a hair stiffer) feel. Stiffer than Gateron blues. I want to know what kind of switches are actually in this thing cuz they're awesome. -But hey, it's hotswappable if you're into that kind of thing! Cons: -Hard-wired USB which is the only way to connect so I can't use it with my tablet. (If they made this exact same board but used the acres of empty space in the case to throw a battery in there & make it wireless, I would buy like. 12.) -I believe it has what the youths call "spring ping". If this bugs you, this will not be your jam. However, I'm old and I love loud angry-sounding keyboards because they remind me of the days of AOL chatrooms, so I'm unperturbed by this feature. -Keycaps are trash. Hot utter trash. Throw them out. Sounded 300% better instantly by just swapping for a set of PBT caps I had on hand. -Enough empty real estate in the case to found a small autonomous nation in. I'm not necessarily advocating for opening your keyboard up and filling the space in the back with silicone and tape and foam and o-rings, but y'know. That makes it sound...less like I'm being haunted by the echo of springs, and takes it up into Favorite Keyboard Ever territory for me. A bunch of people on youtube have modded this keyboard to improve the sound, so it's really easy to see how everybody else made it sound better if that's your thing, and if you brick it in the process it's less than twenty bucks so there's very little risk to modding it. Maybe put that one in the Pros category. Overall, I can't believe I came out here to buy a keyboard for a joke project and ended up with a new daily driver. This thing rocks. Just go for it, dude. ... show more

  • Very Happy with this Purchase. Would recommend.
Color: Blue Switch
This keyboard is great. It feels sturdy and has a little heft to it. The construction and materials feel like they're high quality even though I paid relatively little for it. The blue switches feel great and I am looking forward to trying some red and brown switches in it later ass they are hot swappable. The back lighting is perfect for my purposes which is gaming in a low lighting environment. Though it is only one color there are lots of options for animation and for only lighting select keys which can be helpful for some games. The side lights add extra ambience to my desk ut can also be disabled. ... show more

  • Can't go wrong at this price
Color: Red Switch(Black)
Well, it's not a perfect keyboard, but it's close enough at a good price. It's a solidly built keyboard with red switches, and features a single backlight color. Most illuminated keyboards in this range have a "Rainbow" layout, and only the more expensive ones feature either a single color or fully customizable RGB. There are also lighted side rails, which is actually a first for me. The only downside to this keyboard is that it has a "ring" if you hit the keys hard when typing. I guess I'm a heavy handed typist. It seems to be mostly the keys near the middle of the keyboard (WASD is remarkably quiet). Not sure if this ring will eventually go away or if it's just the way it is. So while the red switches themselves are pretty quiet, there is that ringing sound. And actually, if I tap the back of that keyboard that ringing sound is there too. Maybe there's a lot of metal in there. Aside from that, it's a great keyboard at a great price. ... show more
