  • Crazy good for astronomy
Size: MASTERCLASS PRO - 10 x 56
These babies get mad love over on the CloudyNights binocular forum from collectors having dozens of binoculars and decades of observational experience. Best when mounted on the a tripod, for which the Celestron adapter works very well. The flat field is a joy on stars. Pinpoint to the edge. Very bright. Heavy. ... show more

  • Sharp optics, flat field, with minor design issue.
Size: MASTERCLASS PRO - 10 x 56
Purchased the 10x56mm from Amazon at a good price, on a gamble, having found no detailed online reviews of this new product but interested in this particular larger size. These arrived in very nice packaging with a case/harness, lens covers, instructions, cloth and two straps (for the case and binoculars). In daytime I compared to some other roof prism binoculars in sub-$400 category including Nikon Monarch 7 8x30, Vanguard ED 8.5x45 & Leupold Acadia BX-2 12x50, as well as a 15 year old European model in a much higher priced category. Optically, the Meade is the clear winner of all of these to my eyes. Bright optics and sharp focus completely across the wide field - I mean right to the very edge - with easy focusing and generally nice build quality. Good eye relief and comfort. And, this was unexpected - I’ve come to much like the unique blue color. At night, on the skies, I compared briefly to Fujinon 10x50mm FMT-SX Porro binoculars. My eyes preferred the Fujinons (twice the price) but it actually wasn’t a HUGE difference. When looking up at night, something about the eye positioning just works better with the Fujinons and they just pop, plus they are always in perfect focus at infinity for me due to their design while the Meades need careful focusing on the stars. Have not looked at the moon yet for a false color comparison. The negatives: the bino strap stitching is sloppy in places, the objective cap fit is too loose and I would have preferred that the objectives were recessed quite a bit further to protect them. Those huge, exposed objectives combined with the loose caps do worry me. They are already large binoculars so would an extra quarter inch extension to recess the lenses have mattered? The armor is rubber like material and although it seems well-made and grippy I’m just not sure how long it will last. And of course, 10x56 are relatively large, heavy binoculars by design but that’s not intended as a knock specifically on these Meades. I’m not an expert and have never reviewed binoculars online before. But, I am overall quite surprised and pleased with this purchase and plan to use these regularly. Update: having such good luck with the 10x56 for several months, I also got the 8x42’s on an unexpected price dip. Fantastic sharp optics. The field across to the edge is in very nice focus but these do have somewhat more of squishing effect right on the edge. In other words a small square object is a bit squished if it is viewed close to the field edge. It doesn’t bother me - the edge sharpness is so nice - but I understand that edges in flattened field binoculars can bother some people when quickly panning. I’m not sure if this squishing is it that same globe effect though. The 8x42 lens caps fit more snug than on the 10x56 and the lenses are more appropriately recessed. Mechanically it’s all good. Overall I just can’t believe the quality of these sharp, wide field optics for the price these days. ... show more

  • Excellent optics and value for the money.
Size: MASTERCLASS PRO - 10 x 56
Excellent optics and value for the money. I returned them only because I didn't want to break the cover for the tripod adapter. The pressure I used to attempt removal of that cover exceeded my comfort level. I realize I could have used a Velcro-type tripod adapter, but that doesn't meet my expectations. ... show more

  • Better, but not great.
Size: MASTERCLASS PRO - 10 x 56
The image is sharp, with good contrast. The large FOV is much appreciated. The eye relief is generous, and the field is relatively flat. There is a bit of a curious "rolling ball" effect in the image when panning. There is disappointing fringing and soft focus away from the center of field. These binoculars are ergonomic and comfortable to hold steadily. The focus adjustment is a pleasure, as is the sensible location and feel of the diopter setting. The magnesium body is welcome. Although 10x the image is fairly steady. The relatively high mass dampens mini movements a bit. ... show more

  • Nice upper mid-tier quality
Size: MASTERCLASS PRO - 10 x 56
These are middle tier binoculars. Better than most mid-tier. My problem is that I own 10x50 EL Swarovski binoculars. There is no comparison. The Swaros are the best in the world; the things one hands down for generations. But, for kids and young adults, the Meade binoculars are fine. However, for more serious binoculars, look in the $1,300 and up range. There is a difference, and when you’re ready for top tier, try the Swarovski brand, or even Leitz. You will be shocked at what the best offers. Unfortunately, you will be shocked at the prices too. ... show more
