  • MINION DHF: With a tread design that deftly balances rolling speed with braking and cornering traction, it's hard to find fault with the Minion DHF. That's probably why it's one of the most imitated tires in mountain biking.
  • 3C MAXXTERRA: An intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain tires. 3C MaxxTerra is softer and offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip.
  • EXO: An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.
  • TUBELESS READY: Sealant-compatible rubber is used with a Tubeless Ready bead to securley lock to the rim with, or without, an innertube.

Overall, this tire is fantastic. I received the 120TPI (DD), 3C compound, tubeless folding 29x2.20 version suitable for my 21mm wide internal width rims when I ordered from this listing. PROs: + fantastic grip in loose gravel, sand over hardpack, rocks, and the road + quiet smooth rolling on the road -- feels efficient + easy to inflate tubeless with a floor pump (this is a good safety feature if you need to make a trailside repair for some reason -- a compact hand pump should be able to do the job + feels very sturdy and durable + seals well to rim and no weeping of sealant through sidewalls CONs: - feels quite heavy compared to other similar size tires I've used - required wrestling with tire levers to get on my Stans Crest rim -- dish soap was required to get it to seat the beads initially without over-inflating the tire on the rim - difficult to distinguish which of the many versions you are ordering on Amazon HOT TIP: Take a look at the Maxxis website and browse the many versions of this tire: Wire vs Folding Bead, 60TPI vs 120TPI, rubber compound types, suitable for wide rims (WT) or more narrow rims, etc. Once you've identified the group of characteristics that you want based on reading all of the optional features on the Maxxis website, find the part number for the tire with those characteristics on the Maxxis website and make sure that the part number on Amazon is the same one. I then searched Amazon with that part number. This process took a while, but I'm glad I went through it and got the tire type that I was seeking. ... show more

Was able to install without using a compressor, sealed right away, reasonable traction on wet trail, rocks, roots, rolls well on tarmac, overall very happy with it. Update: a week later, hold pressure really well, sealed nicely tubeless.

Great tire! The tread pattern is super aggressive!! As my front tire, I pick a line going uphill and it literally 'PULLS' me on that line. Duh, sounds obvious, but MTBers will understand me. When you get tired and twist your handlebars while going uphill to keep balance, most tires are forgiving and you can balance out. These DHFs claw into the terrain and grab that line! It sure makes me balance better and keep my bars level while going up. But where this tire earns its keep is on the downhill. Super grippy and keeps you on your line. You will feel more confidence descending, twisting through switchbacks and going over the rocky technical stuff. I've put 200 miles on this tire and the tread is still amazing. I'll have to replace my rear DHR soon, but this DHF should last me a few more months! ... show more

The Maxxis Minion DHF 3C (2.5 X 29) tire improved confidence over roots and in cornering. I went from a Knobby Nic, that admittingly rolls a bit easier, and is nicer on firmer ground. I had to give the DHF a few extra watts to do the same pace, but it gives more support over the rough stuff quite nicely - it feels like a fast tractor tire. My favorite front tire. Seems to have great traction on most surfaces (have not tried wet surfaces). Sand, gravel seem to be no issue. Very fast rolling and really quiet in my opinion.
