I bought this light to replace an old dining room fixture that had seen better days. That fixture, I believe, was original to the house, so it had been there since the 1950s. I did have some concerns at first about hanging a modern LED fixture there, but these are not that expensive so I took the plunge. I'm really happy that I did. The light can be mounted in two ways - either to a conventional electric box in the ceiling, or simply attach it to the ceiling with drywall anchors or screws. I was able to get mine to work with my70+ year old ceiling box. Installation was straightforward and easy. The light fits flush to the ceiling with no gaps and it's really low-profile. As far as performace goes, it puts out plenty of light. The old light had been on a dimmer, and I bought a new dimmer switch because there were a couple of reviews where some people had trouble with the older dimmers. However, the light worked just fine with my existing dimmer - which was probably also 70+ years old. (I changed it anyway because it was old, and I had a new one ready to go.) I rarely need to use the light full-blast - it's typically dimmed down to around half. The night light feature might be my favorite thing with this light. It doesn't shine downward like the main light, it shines upward to the ceiling. This delivers a more diffuse, indirect light at night, and its color is not harsh at all. Even at full brightness it's suitable as a night light. In fact, if I come out to the kitchen in the middle of the night, I don't turn any lights on, I just increase the brightness of the night light, do my thing, and turn the dimmer back down when I leave. If I didn't have a ceiling fan in my kitchen already, I would put one of these in that spot. TLDR: I really dig this light. It's a great value for the money and it has such a low-key design aesthetic that it can literally go anywhere. The night light is awesome. My wife and I got into a new condo that has a vaulted ceiling. The owners before us had installed a three count light fixture that looked like it was meant to be prison yard spotlight. I saw this light while shopping and the orange/yellow glow really intrigued me. The main light is incredibly bright and when put on a sliding control really allows for a large range of brightness. Using the orange/yellow glow, what I call the moon glow light - it’s almost like sitting inside a theater while watching movies on the big screen. I also like using the moon glow exclusively about an hour before bed and find it completely relaxing. By the way, you switch between the lights by turning the light off and quickly back on. I really like how slim this light was and it gives a decent light for a closet or small bathroom. The nightlight feature is really cool. It’s just a little too easy to flip from the nightlight feature to the regular feature if you don’t wait long enough in between to turn on the switch.
