OK, so let me tell you how much I love this watch. I already have a perfectly good government issue Marathon watch which I got prior to retiring from the Marine Corps. That watch continues to loyally tick away, is built like a friggin tank, and is still in just as good a shape as the day I got it. AND THEN I saw this watch, which is exactly the same government issue watch I own except this one is officially licensed by the Marine Corps and has the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor on the dial. Did I need a new ..well no. But, as an old retired Marine how the hell could I resist it?? Now I own TWO MARATHON Automatic Diver's watches, both of which will last a lifetime. If you do not know anything about Marathon watches you owe it to yourself to do some reading about them. Marathon has been the contractor of rugged, government military issue, watches, for many years. They manufacture watches that cost just under $250 all they way up to aircrew automatic chronograph that costs near $3000. This is their government issue SAR watch. It is a 28 jewel, Swiss automatic movement that is tough as nails, accurate, and which will last even the most adventurous of you for a lifetime. This watch is a hundred time more rugged than any over priced Rolex, and looks nearly as good. If you don't believe me simply ask any jeweler that knows anything about automatic watches and he will tell you the same thing. Amazon is selling this watch for nearly $200 less than Marathon sells it for on their website. So if you are planning on purchasing this watch, buy it from Amazon. This watch comes with a nice silicon divers band but, if you are going to treat yourself go ahead and also buy the the Marine Corps licensed stainless steel, 20mm link band that they sell. This is a very nice watch. It seems a little small for a mans watch but it is too nice to return. The shipping took 14 days and I'm not sure what took so long. The tritium is not as bright as I was thinking it would be. All in all, it is a very well put together watch.

This is the classic Marathon GSAR with the USMC branding. GSAR, being Government Search And Rescue. I have the Marathon GSAR and love it. IMHO, it is one of the best watches ever made. I got this one for a family member that is a Marine. It's no frills with the rubber strap, and looks as good if not better than a Rolex Submariner when on the SS bracelet. On the stainless bracelet, this can be you one watch does all. I wear mine at the gym, work, and wear it out to dinner. I have a Rolex, Tag, and a few other fancy watches, and this Marathon is getting most of my wrist time now days. It is built mil-spec, and even feels like it. It is an automatic, so for those of you not familiar... This means you have to keep it wound, or it will stop running. As an automatic, just wearing it keeps it wound. It keeps great time. The price is fair for a good quality Swiss automatic movement. If I could only have one watch, this GSAR would be it. The pictures do not do this watch justice. Get one of these. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS on how to care for this watch, and it will last you many years. As with most dive watches, it has a screw down crown. As long as you are careful when you operate the crown, it will not strip. If you keep it wound, you will only have to hack the time every few months, unless you travel different time zones. ... show more

After many Youtube videos and reading many reviews, I ordered this watch and was disapointed because of only one reason : too girly on my wrist. You should consider larger watch models from Marathon if you don't have a girly wrist size. I returned the watch immediately and I am waiting for a full refund from Amazon. Just after this bad experience, I bought the Marathon CSAR which is a 46.6mm and this watch is abolutely perfect on my wrist the only problem is that the Valjoux 7750 movement is noisy, you need to cope with that. I enjoy Marathon, reliable and really good buid quality but pick up the right size for you or you will be disapointed. ... show more

Excellent quality. For an automatic to be off about 1 second a day is great. The overall quality of the watch is also top of the line! Edit: Excellent time. It started slowing down and I demagnetized. Normally a watch speeds up if magnetized but I decided to do it anyway because it was a sudden occurrence. I now gain about 1/2 second a day and if I wear the watch at night, which I normally don't do, it is almost perfect time. I have no idea how they made an automatic that keeps this accurate of time. Right now after a few days it is 1/2 second fast! Also, very rugged. I use a nato watch band as I don't like the stock band and if a pin should ever release or break, with a Nato band, you don't loose the watch. ... show more
