Description

General Purpose Mechanical watch from Marathon featuring a new dual winding movement, scratch resistant sapphire crystal, and an improved water resistance. Designed to be used in the field by infantry or other military personnel and built to the strict military standards of MIL-PRF-46374G, the GPM is just as at home being worn by a civilian as it is in uniform. The GPM is a true all purpose watch that will be your reliable companion for years. The new GPM with Composite Case uses a Japanese made “Dual Winding Movement” (DWM) and can be wound both by manually winding the crown or by use of the automatic self-winding rotor (transferred energy caused by the movement of the wrist). With our new watch winding system, the user will notice that there is a mechanical noise and the rotor can be felt oscillating; reassuring the user that the automatic winding system is performing as intended. Once fully wound the GPM will run for approximately 41 hours without the need to be wound again, or can be worn to wind using the automatic self-winding rotor.

  • The Humbvee of watches!! Awesome!!!
Color: Sage Green Case - No Government Markings...
Awesome basic field watch!! There are a lot of companies that talk about being tough and having tactical or military grade specifications without really being anything more than a fashion accessory. This watch is not a fashion accessory although it does look good in my opinion. Many watches now use cases that are 40mm+, in fact most are 44mm or larger some as big as 55mm!!! So if. you are used to big flashy watches this is not going to be the watch for you. It is a 34mm case which is rather small by modern standards. Okay you are still with me, then lets get to what this watch is. It is one badass functional timepiece. It has a wrist presence of a watch at least 40mm or in my opinion despite its small size it wears very big and I really like the case. I have had some poly carbon fiber cases which I really did not like and one forged carbon cased watch which I did like but is much more expensive. I find the fibershell material that Marathon uses to be a perfect choice for this type of watch. I am not a fan of army green and I originally wanted the black model but this one was so heavily discounted I went with it and I am glad I did. The case because of the rugged shape and box like lines really make the watch look tough. The color is such a matt dark green I do not mind it at all. This watch has the venerable Seiko NH35 movement that hack's and hand winds. It is a great cheap and reliable movement. Very accurate for the cost. Marathon does not rip you off like almost every other watch company and charges the same price whether you choose quartz or mechanical. There are a lot of other companies that will charge close to $100-$300 or more for a watch with a NH35 movement over a quartz when there is actually very little difference in cost. I am very happy to have the Seiko at this price in a GTLS display watch! Lets get to the case and other features. The Crown, case back, and bezel are all stainless steel. The crown and bezel are blasted steel and the case back is brushed and polished. The crystal is a 3mm thick anti-reflective sapphire crystal which of course is awesome at any price! The build quality of this watch is excellent. Marathon is not in the business of making luxury watches so don't expect that but if you want quality and a lot of features you won't find in other watches at this price. I highly recommend this watch!! Now we will get to what really sets this mechanical field watch apart from the rest which is the Marathon GTLS illumination system which uses borosilicate glass tubes filled with tritium for a constant glow for up to 25 years. There really is nothing like gtls at night. The tubes Marathon uses are better than average but not T100. The dial is a dark flat black with very crisp and legible printing for all the numerals. The dial and hands are ultra legible in all conditions. The band is a standard nylon strap similar to a nato but shorter and more comfortable. So if you want a true "tough" watch with a true military heritage and specs look no further. Don't worry about the size as it looks surprisingly big for it's small size which makes it ultra functional during any activity. Any athlete's looking for a reliable watch should consider this Marathon! ... show more

  • Good watch
I love this watch. It is small, lightweight, and easy to read, the tritium is incredibly bright and makes it extremely easy to check the time in low light conditions. I've had no issues with the watch dying on me, as I've seen some other reviews state, though I am meticulous about winding it in addition to wearing it. It doesn't keep time as accurately as I'd like, loosing less than a minute a week. Overall this is still accurate timekeeping and I am just a stickler for accuracy, that being said, I still love and reccomend this watch. The glass they use is very durable and even with my watch abusive lifestyle, has yet to get a scratch on the lense. ... show more

  • Great, Military Style Watch!
Color: Desert Tan Case - US Government Dial
Finding a simple, military style watch with tritium inserts led me to the Marathon. It’s not the biggest, but it suits me well. I appreciate how it self-winds, or you can wind it yourself, but either way there is no battery that ever needs replacing. A great day to day watch.

  • Five seconds per day slow adds up fast
First of all, the watch is gorgeous - the photos don't do it justice. It really looks great on your wrist. Speaking of wrist, the strap is relatively short. While I'm not skinny I'm not exceptionally large either but I have to use the last hole on the strap and even then it's tighter than I want it to be. Getting replacement straps is not a big deal but for a men's watch I expected a longer strap. The tritium works sensationally well - if you wake up in the middle of the night and want to know what time it is it almost feels like you're looking into a flashlight when staring at the dial. Well done! The biggest issue I have is with the accuracy. Of course, it's a mechanical watch and I'm not expecting the same standards as with a quartz movement, but I don't see why a $360 watch is significantly less accurate than a $100 Seiko or Orient. Running a minute slow per week adds up quickly. The movement is advertised as "Japanese," so why do Japanese watchmakers get it right but Marathon doesn't? ... show more

  • Deserves 6 Stars. Checks All the Right ""Boxes"
Color: Desert Tan Case - US Government Dial
I own several watches and this one has it all at a fantastic price. I bought this watch wanting something "tough" to wear in a wood working shop. My impressions: Love the self winding mechanism. Try keeping up with replacing batteries for quartz watches. This one (after wearing it for only a week) keeps very good tome. Within seconds of the atomic clock I set it to. Love the tritium feature (one of the main reasons for settling on this watch). When I first got the watch I rushed to the bathroom to see how well it worked. My first impression was that it wasn't that impressive. Perhaps my eyes hadn't quite adjusted to the dark because it really is very bright and impressive. Youlll sure see it if you glance at it on your nightstand at night. Went to the movies today and it was amazingly easy to read and distracted me a bit checking it out so often. The orange color at the 12 o'clock position is a great touch. The size of the watch has grown on me as well. The sapphire crystal lens gives the watch an expensive look. I couldn't be happier and my Hamilton military watch (30+ years old) is collecting dust along with the Rolex, Brietling, Apple Watch, Raymond Weil (among others). I only mention the others to give my opinion on this watch a bit more "weight". Couldn't be happier with this watch and recommend it highly if it meets your needs as well! ... show more
