I don't know if it was because it opens from the top and unscrews from the bottom for easy cleaning. It leaked from the bottom at school. So I returned the defective one. I decided to give it another chance because I liked the look of it and it matched the set and i ordered a replacement bottle. It came and the same thing happened again. My kiddo was super excited for his very first ever day of school, only to discover his backpack a wet mess and his water bottle empty when we pulled into the parking lot. The easy to clean design is not worth it if the bottom doesn't seal. I thought maybe it wasn't screwed on correctly or tight enough, so I redid it, filled it up, and left it on the counter. Broke the first day of use, the mouthpiece is not very functional and definitely not easy to clean (lots of nooks and crannies for liquid to get into and mold.
