  • Great product, but could be easily improved upon
I purchased the Malone WideTrak ATB Large Kayak/Canoe Cart with Bunks to use with my FeelFree Lure 11.5 V2 kayak. The cart assembles very easily, and the straps are of very good durable quality, the wheels and tires appear to be made from a very hard and durible but slick plastic, and I do wish the tires would have had a slightly tackier and rubbery material in order to provide some bump absorbing capabilities when going over rocks, curbs, roots, etc... It's a good overall design, however, its design could easily be improved upon with very little effort and cost to the manufacturer in order to make this cart much more capable and compatible with more kayaks. Here is the disappointing issue I had with it as it came; As it comes, you're only given four cotter pin rods about 3" long with their pins, and small spacers to add to them in order to adjust the bunk height a very small amout for your kayak. The problem I had, even with the spacers added, the bunks still weren't high enough in order to provide any weight distribution support or horizontal swing prevention at all to the pads on the bunks. When a wheel would hit a rock or a tree root, the cart would turn in another direct as well as slide toward the back of the kayak even with the straps tightly secured because there wasn't enough friction resistance applied against all of the cart support pads. This was very disappointing, and I was almost going to return it before giving it some improvement considerations in order to fix this major issue. On the bright side, this is an extremely easy problem to resolve for only a few bucks at a hardware store. It's just disappointing and irritating after spending so much. I went to home Depot and it cost me a few bucks to get four bolts measuring 1/4" X 6" for replacing the four original cotter pin rods. Additionally, I also used roughly 13" of air line tubing I had laying around my work shop for putting the bolts through in certain areas as my own diy dampening spacers in key locations for lifting the bunks higher (four measuring 1 3/8" to raise the bunks and four measuring 1 3/4" to take up the dead space between the cart frame and the new bolt nuts.). I could have done this with 4" bolts, but at the price of gas right now I got what I got in order to cover all my options. With this super easy mod, I'm thoroughly happy with this cart now because it now utilizes all of the support pads for perfect weight distribution across all of the pads, horizontal stability, and slip prevention with the straps. It certainly would be nice if Malone would consider including addition rod lengths and spacers with this cart in order to easily accommodate more kayak designs, but as it comes with only the four cotter pin rods it's a major irritation and design undersight in which you may need to spend a few more bucks more in order to correct it. It is an easy fix. I hope my details and photos will help you to maximize on the capabilities of this we'll made sturdy cart for your vessel. I still gave it 5 stars across all categories simply because it's such an easy fix, and it honestly is a well made sturdy cart. It's just unfortunate and disappointing, and something that shouldn't occur after spending over $160 for the cart. To Malone, Come on guys. Get your act together please. This fix would barely cost you anything to include a few more additional low cost supplies in order to capitalize on the maximum capabilities of this sturdy well made cart. I like what you're doing as a company and your values, and I chose you because your made in America, but this type of undersight could easily catch you with your pants down and put your foreign and domestic competition ahead of you. ... show more

  • This cart is a beast!
The Malone WideTrak ATB Large Kayak Cart is the real deal. I wanted a cart that would be strong and wide enough to support my Hobie Outback, yet versatile enough to use with my Dagger Alchemy touring kayaks. I set it up with the bunks at the widest position and they align perfectly with the Outback's hull. This same setting comfortably cradles my Alchemys. The cart is extremely well made. The large semi-cushioned tires should allow me to go through most terrain and I've no concerns that the cart will hold up to the weight. It comes with a pair of really heavy duty cam buckle straps. On smooth terrain, I've (carefully) transported the kayaks without using the straps, however, they will come in handy on hills or rougher terrain. I prefer them over my Thule straps for lashing the Outback to my trailer. On the downside, this isn't a compact cart that you can readily fold up and store in a hatch. It weighs roughly 15 pounds and it quite large. You might be able to strap it on your back deck but, again, it's a beast. Do your homework first if you intend to store it on your boat while you're fishing. I debated whether to build a DIY cart from PVC. By the time I bought all the hardware, I'd have spent at least $40-50 and it probably would have failed in a year or two. For not a lot more money, I have a cart that will last for at least a decade. ... show more

  • Good cart, but it’s HUGE...
Cart does what it is supposed to. Easy to assemble, is durable, but MAN is this thing big! I’ll probably be getting rid of it in fairly short order just because of the size.

  • Well designed. Works very well.
The larger than average wheels work well. Used it on gravel, over 3" bumps, and on a checkered concrete boat ramp. The horizontal parallel padded guides really help to keep the kayak from sliding out of position. Good straps. Easy to break down. It would be nice if they included 2 extra wheel retainer pins in case one gets lost. ... show more

  • Cart and customer service - no complaints whatsoever
The box arrived quite damaged by USPS but luckily the cart was unscathed. However, parts were missing that quite likely fell out of a large hole in the box. The hardware to connect the bunks to the cart and a pair of straps and the seller immediately sent them (separately I might add because I didn’t know everything that was missing until I was putting it together). The cart with bunks at the farthest or widest setting fits my hobie mirage tandem kayak perfectly. This is a very robust cart that I think will last for many seasons. I am very pleased with it and with the sellers responsiveness to my issue with the missing parts. I did send them pictures of the damaged box as soon as I received it - that is after I first realized that specialized hardware was missing. So overall, a very good kayak cart - the bunks up against the hull really help with ensuring a good fit and not scratching or damaging the kayak. With the cart I am now able to get the 75 lb kayak from the truck bed to the lake shore without assistance. Thank you for this high quality cart and excellent customer service! ... show more
