  • I'm only buying these from now on
My wife is an avid book collector and it seems like I'm constantly buying new shelves. We have a total of 12 bookshelves in the house, all completely filled with books. I got tired of paying 120+ a shelf from other brands, especially since the nicer shelves are already in the living room where people will see them. So I bought 3 of these with pure storage in mind over ascetics. I gotta say, these are 100% the best value dollar per dollar of any bookshelf I've ever bought. I am only going to be buying these going forward so I can keep buying her a shelf every 5 months without breaking the bank. PRO's: 1. CHEAP! My god the price is unbeatable. $42 for a bookshelf? That's like flea-market prices. 2. Easy to put together. In the past I've spent 4 hours putting shelves together before. The first one of these took me around an hour and a half. The other two about an hour. Hands down the easiest to assemble shelf I've ever bought. 3. Sturdy. I haven't seen any bowling and I don't worry about it collapsing when the entire shelf is full. 4. They look pretty good! Especially when the books are on it. CON's: I really don't have much to say here. Yes I can nitpick. If you buy multiple shelves and stand them next to each other, you may see slight differences in how the corners line up. To prevent wobbliness, you may need to put a felt pad under one of the feet so all 4 touch the ground evenly. But these are problems that all bookshelves have unless you're spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars. The only real "con" I would say is that Mainstay did not paint the top edge of the side boards. So if you are tall enough to look down on the top of the shelf, you will see the unfinished edge of the particle board (see pictures). Lazy but I'm not taking off a star for that. Other than that, these are slightly more narrow than I thought. They are 25'' compared to most of my other shelves which are over 30. However that can also be seen as a plus, because the more narrow shelves are less likely to bowl with more weight on them. Point is that yes, a $120 shelf is going to be better in about every way. However, these shelves are solid, cheap, easy to assemble, and look pretty good. 5/5 starts, and I will buy again. ... show more

  • It's a $50 Bookshelf ..
It's a bookshelf. For the money, it's a 5-shelf design that can hold a STUPID amount of books/magazines/etc. Seriously, every single textbook and manual in my house can fit on this thing comfortably alongside 100 issues of Gameinformer and STILL not take up all the space. For fifty dollars, you can't really beat that. BUT (<--- see this? This means we're leaving the part where I say nice things) It arrived late.. Not like 1 or 2 days late.. like an ENTIRE WEEK late, and in rough shape. I don't know WHY people continue to use FedEx when their drivers practically HURL your stuff around, but the bookshelf ended up with dented corners and splits (which wouldn't be an issue with solid wood, but this thing is composite particle-board .. so yeah, that's a problem..) As for the sturdiness, well.. The cams holding the top part of this thing to the lower half are a good design .. provided that the material is strong enough to withstand the pulling force (spoiler alert; it isn't..) so One of the FOUR 'pegs' that are pulled on by the cams practically YEETED itself out of its semi-permanent resting place, along with a good portion of said particle-board (so, add "super glue/JB Weld" to the list of tools you're gonna need to assemble this. Other than being made of cheap composite material and being shipped by vindictive OGRES who beat packages up like Michael Jackson's dad beat gold albums out of him .. it's a solid purchase (That's Irony, folks.. but you get what you pay for) ... show more

  • Perfect! Just what I needed and easy to assemble
Arrived in record time! Super easy to assemble, took me less than 2 hours to assemble 3 of them! Love the fact that they come with wall secures!

  • Good price for a fair product- did the job
It assembled quickly and I also used gorilla glue with my assembly to ensure a long life. 2 of the boards looked like they had been dropped and the particle board was damaged a little bit but the damamge was in the back of the shelf and not noticeable. Rest of the black finish looked fine.

  • Does the job
I know, I know... "You get what you pay for". Still, I was looking for a good value. The instructions were clear, but the materials were fragile. When I put the back on, the directions were to put the nails in the exact marked spots. The first thing that happened, was that when I carefully picked up the cardboard back to place it, it tore at the seam. I used duct tape for that. Then I made sure everything was lined up before putting the nails in. After I put the nails in as directed and stood the unit up, I noticed that it had chipped in 2 places, so out came the wood glue. Thankfully, the chips are in places that can be hidden, but still, I expected more. ... show more

  • Easy set up and holds quite a lot
The only problem that I have is too many books and so I have to buy another case to fit my needs but other than that, the material's sturdy, it's easy to assemble, doesn't take up much space., and there's decent amount room for books. Worthy buy!

  • Not about looks!
The box came-it was so small I thought I was scammed at first but after taking it out you realize its bigger than the box looks. Just assemble it and you won't be disappointed by how nicely all your books fit!

  • Good for price
It’s a cheap bookcase- what do you expect? Once anchored to the wall it’s not bad. Easy to put together and I love that it’s constructed from 2 separate side pieces so it’s more sturdy. All together it will work great for holding my sons legos- which is what we bought it for.
