I don't consider myself to be a great seamstress. I'm self-taught, and have learned a lot through trial and area. Now that my skill level is established, I will say that this certainly makes a difference in keeping my seams straighter! I haven't used the curved one, so I can't comment on that. The magnet IS quite strong, as others have commented. I find that it can shift side to side if I bump it too hard, but it generally stays in place. I can certainly see how it would be difficult for some people to remove it. Shifting even a portion of it to an area with plastic might help with that. I certainly think it's a good value, even if I only end up using one! ... show more

Before anyone else makes my mistake, note the specifications! The hemming swirl thing is a very specific tool for specific machines. This product page has a couple of different hemming tools and some may work for your sewing machine while others won't! So don't buy it just because someone said "It works for my Singer Heavy Duty!" Think, WHAT works? I have a Singer Heavy Duty (idk what model) and I saw someone say that "it works for Singer Heavy Duty, so I assumed they were referring to the swirl hemming tool. I was wrong. The swirl does NOT work with all Singer Heavy Duty sewing machines. Check out my photos, my SHD does not have screws in front of the foot, it has them on the sides, makes a huge difference. Now the tool itself is splendid, I fanengled it into the proper spot and with some effort on my part in keeping it straight, it hemmed things beautifully! So, it works! IF it works with your sewing machine. Now, I don't want to return it because it was my fault, so I think I will gift it to my seamstress friends who may have different models of sewing machines. :) Long story short, read the description carefully!!! ... show more
