  • Saved my arm!
Size: 18" Style: 1 Sleeve
Took an intensive glass blowing class and this sleeve stood between a 900° furnace and my skin. I would have wimped out without it

  • I think it's a fair price.
Size: 18" Style: 1 Sleeve
This was only $5 when I ordered it, and I was really expecting it to just not work, but it actually works really well. I was pretty concerned when I was testing it and somehow cut a small fiber within the fiest few seconds of testing it, but I really had a go at it afterwards, I figured if it was going to give out I should find out sooner than later. But after that one little nick I couldn't get another. I did avoid intentionally enlarging it, I do plan on using this on occasion so I don't want to ruin it now that I know I can trust it. I probably won't trust it when working with anything like rough cut metal edges, which was my intention, but at least it won't easily be cut by a blade. It's pretty comfortable to wear and ot fits snuggly on my arm. I wouldn't recommend this side for people with larger arms. ... show more

  • Good within limits
Size: 18" Style: 1 Sleeve
I'd agree with some other reviewers that the stitching around the thumb hole and arm opening could be better. Time will tell whether there are any issues with unraveling. (Personally I think I'd only use this on occasion so I wouldn't think that would be an issue for me.) Now for my testing. First, I turned on my stove burner to see how close I could get to the flame without discomfort. I got within about 6 inches before holding it there for more than a couple of seconds felt too hot. For reference, I tried that with my "Ove Glove" and I could pretty much get down to the flame. (Not really a fair comparison since the Ove Glove is much thicker and built for a different purpose.) I actually tried the same with my bare arm and had to pull away a bit further away than this product (when arm hair started to burn - oops). I also tried a single lit match against the material and all it seemed to do was leave a slight singe mark. The material itself seems about as think as a high quality sweatshirt I'd expect the abrasion resistance to be decent better although I could see rough surfaces snagging the material. ... show more

  • Little snug but effective.
Size: 18" Style: 1 Sleeve
Bought for some added protection while welding, Fits to the elbow as expected but might be to snug for someone with thicker forearms. There was some fraying on the edges where it was stitched so watch for lose threads and remove them before using since they might catch a spark or melt.

  • Easy to use and protected me right away!
Size: 18" Style: 1 Sleeve
We needed to replace a broken galvanized pipe nipple from an elbow. Old compound and rust made the threads bind. A torch to the elbow could soften the compound and expand the outer threads, but that meant using a propane torch with an open flame. I wasn't going to mess with the torch, with its spitting and varying size flame (I think the tank was low), but I was willing to hold the pipe wrench and try to unscrew the nipple while the elbow was being heated. My friend worked the torch. I received this protective sleeve the day before, so I put it on. It's yellow and my fingers poke through. It was comfortable enough. I was made fun of. Don't care. So I pulled and pulled and tried to twist that pipe nipple off. Whaddayuknow, my friend, who was trying to heat the pipe elbow all around, passed the open flame across my forearm - the forearm with the protective sleeve. It was brief, I saw it happen, I didn't feel anything, but we both jumped back, each in our own direction, and dropped what we were holding. The pipe wrench hung onto the pipe nipple, the torch kept flaming and sputtering. Friend, thanks for offering, but I'm not doing DIY with you again. Are you hurt, are you hurt? I wasn't. Neither was the sleeve. Before things cooled we both put our weight on the pipe wrench and the pipe nipple turned. You are reading a Vine review, which means this product was sent to me without my having to pay for it. I never believed Vine reviews, I felt people would say anything to get free stuff. The Vine program, at least for me, is a little different: I only get what I go out of my way to ask for, and everything I get is reported as income to me, so I'll have to pay income taxes at what will probably be reported as list price. I may actually lose on the deal. But I wanted this protective sleeve, I'm big on protective gear and I never had anything that said it gave both physical and heat protection. I didn't know it existed before I saw it available for review, and I was lucky to receive and have a need for it so soon. I'm really indebted to this sleeve, it saved me a lot of grief and left my fingers free for dexterous work. It's not expensive and, in my case, paid for itself numerous times very quickly. Hopefully, my experience has been a help to you. ... show more
