My 7 yr old daughter has used this probably 10 times already & it’s still putting out the smoke. I bought refills but haven’t even had to use them. She loved the animal on this inside & the ring with the gem. Instructions are kind of hard so I had to help with that part but after she did it a few times on her own she didn’t even need me help doing it. You follow the instructions to open the top to get the ring then follow the instructions to open the next part to get the stone that goes on the ring then the last time you follow the instructions it pops up the animal. The animal is also magnetic so it will stick to the ring. You can put it all back in the lamp & do it all over again & again. The smoke part was her favorite though so once she got all the items out she just made it smoke & smoke until her room was full of a cloud of smoke l0l Not much else to do with it so a little pricey for the small amount it actually does but she is definitely enjoying it so it’s worth it ... show more

As stated in the subject this is a toy that must have the instructions red along with using detour for at least the first time. This toy has a lot of potential to be very fun however the toy in not intuitive. For this reason I did not give it 5 stars. If your child has very little patience or assumes that the toy will easily produce the mixing inside this is not to toy for them. Now for the child that is ready for the "adventure" with adult guidance or is no stranger to trial and error problem then this toy maybe well suited for them. Overall the toy was a good birthday present after spending about 15 mins (adult and child) going through the steps to produce a Mixie. A kind note is that if you try to manually pry the lid opened while locked you'd probably break the lid of the lamp. ... show more
