Features

  • Create Routines: Using the Alexa app, create your own routines that are triggered when motion is detected. Customize Alexa messages like Welcome Home or Motion Detected in Living Room when motion is detected.
  • Smart Light Control: If you have a smart light or smart plug connected to the Alexa service, you can create a routine in the Alexa app that will enable it to automatically turn on when motion is detected (and off when no motion is detected for a period of time that you specify).
  • Hassle-Free Setup: Installs in seconds. Just plug it into Echo Flexs USB port and Alexa automatically discovers it.
  • Adjust the Motion Sensors sensitivity by unplugging and plugging it back in 4 times. See first FAQ below.
  • No Batteries Needed: Powered directly by Echo Flex, never need to worry about changing batteries.
  • Echo Flex can support 1 USB accessory at a time.

  • Unreliable
I setup the motion sensor to activate 2 bath lights when motion is detected. It worked for a day and thereafter constantly powers the lights on when there is no motion. I power off the lights manually and they come back on in a few minutes. I verified that no motion was occurring. I reset the device and the same experience. Since I purchased several of these I swapped it out for another thinking one was defective. Nope! Same thing with the replacement. Others throughout the home work until there is a power flicker and then they have to be deleted from the Alexa app and reset. Unreliable. ... show more

  • Awesome for creating routines that are triggered by motion
This add-on for the Echo Flex allows you to create routines that are triggered by any detected motion. The motion sensor plugs into the USB port at the bottom of the Echo Flex. There is a small blue light on the left that indicates when motion is detected. In testing, the motion sensor seemed to work very well, consistently sensing movement at 15 feet or less. I was easily able to create a routine that turned some of my smart lights on whenever motion was detected. For the cost, I feel like this a great value; as the Echo Flex plus this add-on currently cost $40 total. Being able to have Alexa functionality in a hallway, plus the ability to trigger routines based on motion detection, makes this a super useful little device. Setup was very easy, as the motion sensor was immediately detected by the Alexa app when I plugged it in. Configuring routines is also very easy and straightforward. I would recommend this add-on for anyone that wants to add motion triggered routines, as it seems to work well so far. To set up a motion sensor routine: Open the Alexa app. Open the Menu (three lines in upper left), and choose "Routines". Add a new routine with the Plus sign in the upper right. Touch the Plus sign to the right of "When this happens." Choose "Smart Home" from the list of categories. Select "First motion sensor", and then "Next" in the upper right. Then you can use the Plus sign next to "Add action" to select what you want to happen when motion is detected. I chose "Smart Home" and then "Lights" to make the lights come on when motion is detected. Then make sure to touch "Save" in the upper right, and you should now see your routine listed in the Routines menu. If you have any other questions, feel free to comment on this review and I will try to run any tests or answer any questions you have. ... show more

  • Close but not there yet
Update 2/25/2021 There must have been a software update as it works perfectly now. You still have to have two separate routines and I think the order in which you "play" the routines still might matter but I haven't tested it extensively. Original: Very inconsistent! Sometimes it will detect motion and other times it will not. The UI for this detector in the Amazon app is less than great. It forces you to create two separate routines; one for motion detected and one for no motion detected. This should be a single routine. Also the timer on it does not play well. I only wanted it to turn on my lights when triggered at night and in the morning. However, it has an error that does not allow this...only allowing a timer for working hours to be set during the day...when the sun is out.... The delay timer setting also doesn't work. I have it set to turn off my lights after ten minutes of no motion detected and my lights stay on for around 20 minutes. Just today the motion sensor refused to be triggered, even with no schedule setup for hours of operation. The app also has trouble updating when motion was detected. For example, my wife will be home and yet it will say no motion detected for 15 hours. This makes no since because it was triggered just that morning when I was in the kitchen. Great idea, poor execution. ... show more

  • Can be placed anywhere with an extension.
Update: Sensors with a longer cord seem to not have enough gumption to work for long. I find have to unplug the flex and reset things about once a week. It is annoying. I have removed most lights from the routine, as I cannot rely on the motion. Original: With the help of a 10 foot USB extension, I set the sensor on an edge of a shelf. The detector is in perfect proximity to see the motion it needs. You need to plug it into a Flex, so the extension must reach your plug. ... show more

  • Not for remote motion notifications with iPhone.
Apparently my expectations were too high for this device. I was hoping to receive instant notifications remotely on my iPhone when motion was detected. It appears this is not the case. I'll be sending this and the flex back.

  • Can only be used one at a time, either the motion sensor or the smart night light.
Doesn't work when directly connected to a USB source . It has to be plugged in to the Echo Flex So if one gets both the smart night light as well as the motion sensor, usage is limited to one at a time only for full functionality
