  • Good quality overall
Style: 10-Channel
Getting the negatives out of the way first, I had to return the first one I ordered back because the Main Meter L leds were inoperable in all channels. Received a replacement the very next day (thanks to the no hassle Amazon return process.) The replacement is working beautifully. The mixer comes with a Quick Start Guide and has an extensive online pdf manual online to download if you wish. It is solidly built, the knobs are smooth, the 24 effects sound good and are useful for vocals and any instrument. Using a Focusrite interface, it records without issue in both Pro Tools and Ableton. After downloading the proper driver the USB functions as advertised and works well in any DAW I tried. This unit is advertised offering free Pro Tools First with plugin bundle. On the Mackie website this offer has been discontinued since 02/2022. Avid has replaced Pro Tools First with Pro tools Intro. I've been using Pro Tools for years so this was not an issue with me, but the offer should not be part of the product description. I like this mixer very much. ... show more

  • Solid medium duty mixer. After 20+ years the brand is still reliable and affordable.
Style: 12-Channel
I used to own a Mackie 1402 Series mixer, which was the smallest offered by Mackie that still had faders instead of pot dials. The build of this one is similar, maybe 80% as rugged as the old 1402 series (and subsequent updates) which has been consistently been $450 for over 20 years. My budget was a little lower this time around and opted for this model after pouring over reviews. It was around $300. I trust the brand. I like the included USB interface, but feel like it could have been updated to USB 3 or 4, but it works just fine as is. No driver needed for Mac. The included FX are very basic but handy since I don't own any outboard FX units or pedals. The Onxy Mic PreAmps are very good for a mixer at this price. It was a little tricky finding the rack ears for this model (because of the delay in shipping from non-prime sellers, I purchased from Sweetwater). Once installed in my rolling tilt rack (see my other Amazon reviews) I found the OSHA power cable and the USB cables stick straight out the back / top and interfered with the patch panel I had installed above it, despite the 1 RU space I left for access. After confirming which type of 90 degree replacement cables I needed- it was just 2 simple (under $10) purchases to get the mixer to fit properly. That was VERY specific to my config- but something to be aware of if the mixer is going to live in a rack vs desktop. I RECOMMEND this mixer for Quality and Value. I expect to own this one at least as long as the previous model. ... show more

  • Mackie Got It Right!
Style: 10-Channel
I have owned a few Mackie mixers over the years, from the VLZ workhorses to the ProFX series V2. The only problem I had was using one for home recording. They had to sit in front of my Lexicon audio interface adding more noise. I wanted to use the Mackie preamps and eq going directly in, not just eq it in the software. (note: the v2 series have USB available on the 8 channel and up but monitoring with headset is not easy to do on those when recording) This new ProFX10 v3 series does it SO well. The channels are dead silent for perfect quiet passages like acoustic guitar and vocals. The 3-Band eq is very nice sounding and the compressor is a nice touch to have added. I can really hear the difference in the new GIGFX effects, plus there are more of them! The Onyx mic pre's with 60db of gain let you record with almost anything you plug in. I recorded a few vocal tracks with my old SM58 for testing and it sounded amazing. For me the main reason I switched to this new v3 model is the monitoring ability while tracking. They built in a "blend" circuit and knob to allow you to record a new track while a previously recorded track is playing back, just like in a "real" studio. The blend knob lets you hear exactly how much of your live recording you want in your headset and how much of the recorded track playback you want. There's also a separate "control room" volume knob for studio speaker monitoring. Finally, on this model (as well as the ProFX6) they have gone with level knobs instead of sliding faders. I personally never liked sliding faders on small boards, they are hard to fine tune while sitting at a desk. Plus they collect dirt much easier. This also makes this 10 channel mixer very compact on the desk! (I'm looking forward to taking this out to mix a live show too) Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Board lives up to Mackie name
Style: 12-Channel
For budget, durability and dependability Mackie is tough to beat. On board effects are great. Preamps are quality. Awesome track strip features, compression , low cut, EQ, channel mute, sliders are great feel versus my other mixer with only knobs. I may never use the USB connection for cpu recording but that is also a plus feature for this board. Recommended for small to midsize venues for up to 5 piece bands. ... show more
