  • Written instructions are useless, use the BILT app. Responsive customer service
Size: Lean To 4 x 6
The first box I received had been taped up and was missing all bolts and connector pieces. A call to customer service (Machrus) was answered quickly and they sent an email for me to list missing pieces. It was determined that it was easier to send me a full new box. Pics are from the previous model I built. You must use the BILT app (android/apple) to build the greenhouse. Don't even attempt it with the written instructions. Even then there are a few things that you just have to try and figure out. I assembled a 4x4 treated lumber base and 2x4 frame against the house/wall attached to the concrete and stucco. I built and leveled the frame and filled it with crushed granite to have a solid base. Assembling on a windy day is an impossible task, so wait until it is still. You can do it alone, but it will be much easier with a second set of hands. I had an electric screwdriver/drill and an impact socket and it made things much easier than using the included wrench and screwdriver. Some things that took a while to figure out/weren't clear: * the top/corners and middle roof supports should fit tight against the horiztonal members at the very top and front edge. Do not leave gaps where they intersect or your poly pieces will not be sandwiched tightly and can come out. * when putting the poly in on the sides, start with the tallest piece and then move toward the front with the shorter pieces. Trying to get them in the channels of the metal pieces is easier this way. * the door fits on a protected channel in the top, but rests on the outer lip of the bottom sill. I kept trying to get the bottom to ride the middle channel but that causes the door to hit the side support. It seemed like the top/bottom would be designed in parallel but they are not. * the angle brackets that fit on the middle support and roof side supports have an offset hole. You have to make sure this hole is in the correct orientation for the top of the doorframe support or it will not line up. * when you peel the white film off the poly pieces, mark the "outside" edge with a sharpie or sticker. If the rectangular pieces ever come off or get flipped around you won't know which is the outside otherwise. The white film is the "outside", which I assume is treated differently, but I couldn't see any difference. Once assembled the greenhouse is pretty sturdy. I ran a bead of flexseal around the vertical seams to lock the panels into place on the second day of assembly. I hadn't done this on the first day and a few pieces flexed and blew out, causing me to have to dis-assemble and re-assemble parts to get them back in. I also drilled small holes around the outside bottom trim to screw the frame down to the wooden base. ... show more

  • Assembly UNfun. Finished Product Not Bad.
Size: Lean To 4 x 6
Likes: Lightweight, well packed, fast shipping, all materials present, video instructions option, inexpensive, versatile, nice looking, functional. Dislikes: Polycarbonate (plastic) is very thin, assembly is unnecessarily complicated, they MEAN IT when they tell you to put the channel bolts in for later, nothing to remind you to square it out before bolting which sucks a bit if you don't catch it. Tips we will share: Have Duct Tape to hold glazing or plastic covering in the metal channels when you are trying to put the next one in cause the first one falls out lol. Have at least two friends or family members to help you hold it in place and validate that it sucks, tell you to quit and throw it away, etc., to strengthen your resolve to finish it and also to feel even better when you are done with it and it's up and working! You will need to get a latch for closure for the roof vent as it pops open and for the door as it has none. Silicone caulk the entire thing from the outside when you are done. If you forget one of the "use later" channel bolts, just buy a pack of small T bolts and it's not a big deal as long as you measure or else just tin snip out a triangle and put the bolt in downstream, then slide up and into place. Once the washer and nut is on and tight, no one cares. We cut out the back of a shed I built earlier and added this, turning the whole thing into a greenhouse so it was perfect. I will likely add some stronger poly next year but for this year, it's great. Yes, assembly is literally the most maddening thing in the world and that is not hyperbole. My spouse can assemble anything despite terrible instructions and actually almost gave up on this. There is a lot of sliding and popping out of flimsy metal and thin plastic. Duct Tape for the win! I will say, the metal is freakishly strong for how flimsy and light it is. Hope this helps someone. ... show more

  • Nothing is perfect, but it's great for the money
Size: Lean To 4 x 6
I waited to see how it would survive the winter before reviewing, and it held up through high wind and heavy snow. However, a hail storm did put some small holes in the roof (outer layer). It's usually 50F warmer than it is outside on a sunny day. It was hard to build and the slightest breeze makes it even harder, but once it's up you're all set. My one complaint is that there's no way to lock the window closed, so I had to use 2 C-clamps. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for.
Size: Lean To 4 x 6
Make sure to reinforce the panels with a clear glue/caulk to prevent it from blowing apart. Half of the panels blew out of mine the first storm we had so reinforcing is a must. I also built mine on some 4x8s which I anchored into. Read all the instructions first and make sure you put all of the bolts pictured in before moving on to the next step because they will be used later. ... show more
