  • Requires modifications, but a nice piece
Size: 87
I purchased this radiator for my 2007 GMC Yukon, 5.3 V8. Upon arrival the box was very beat up, nearly open, but all items were still inside. I must say, it’s a solid appearing piece with nice welds. Appears at face value to be a great alternative to the cheap factory replacements that fail quickly. This is where the love ended though… it’s a lot of messing around and troubleshooting to get this thing to work. Once I got through all of these issues, it seems to work well though :). Items that had to be modified to fit in the vehicle: 1. Lower Radiator Mount Bushings - Had to remove about 1/4-3/8” of thickness from them to accommodate the thick welds and tall side tanks. 2. I had to trim a good bit of the tabs on the radiator surface above the side tanks. I also used a file to round off all of the sharp edges on the mounting tabs. 3. The Electric Fans fit in, but the tabs welded on the radiator were too short for the mid mount on the fans. I made adapters to extend this from delrin acetal plastic. 4. MOST FRUSTRATING PART - Radiator to Expansion Tank hose bypass has no restriction orifice like the factory radiator has in it. You must make a small orifice piece with a 0.095-0.125” diameter hole to restrict the coolant flow. I made a small part from stainless steel with hose barbs on both ends. I used a 0.095” diameter orifice hole. Without this, the vehicle will cool down while driving. If idling or in traffic it would warm up to 208 degrees or so and turn on the fans as intended. On my HPTuners VCM Scanner, ECT at 70mph was only 150-155 deg F on a 50 degree day. Sounds awesome, but it’s not. The 07-14 GM vehicles (and potentially others) will throw a P0128 code for thermostat unable to regulate. The orifice is a controlled bypass of the thermostat. With too much bypass, the engine cannot heat up as too much cold water is routed into the engine, around the thermostat. This code causes a dash warning of “ENGINE HOT AC TURNED OFF”. It is confusing as the code infers the engine is overheating but it’s not. It also shuts off the coolant temperature gauge inside the truck, which is a great idea when you think you are overheating. Anyways… Install the orifice and this goes away. The engine heats up to 208 degrees, just as it used to. Would I buy again… yes, but only because I know all of the things above. It works great now, and I’m sure it will be great when the warmer weather comes. Just to add… I’m an Engineer by trade and was previously an ASE certified mechanic. ... show more

  • great product but maybe not a direct fit
Size: 58
This is a very nice quality radiator and fit nicely in the original mounting holes (first picture), but was not a direct replacement. My truck is a camper special and apparently has an upgraded radiator as original equipment (second picture). So, the original radiator was a bit taller (maybe 2 inches on top and 2 inches on bottom) than this replacement that I ordered. It still fit the original mounting holes nicely but I couldn't use the fan shroud because the inflow and outflow ports were too close together. I also had to bend the transmission cooler lines a bit to reach the higher inlet locations and flex the radiator hoses to the new inlet/outlet locations. I would just recommend checking your original radiator size and if it looks like the 2nd picture I wouldn't purchase this radiator. I believe this would be a direct replacement if I didn't have the camper special radiator. Nice quality and is functioning well so far. ... show more

  • Great build quality, OK fit for 2009 Jeep JK
Size: 93
The quality of the welds were not phenomenal, but they were good. Feels like decently heavy gauge aluminum. The fit was a little rough, many of the bolt holes not quite lining up perfectly, and it is a little thicker than the OEM. Took some time, but I got it to fit. Will update if it springs any leaks. ... show more

  • Stay cool
Size: 117
Replaced my griffin radiator with this. All my cooling problems were solved was struggling to stay under 220 with the old rad this one doesn’t go above 190 now. Lots of reviews about it not being a perfect fit but if you figured out how to get a sbc in a jeep you can definitely get this to work.

This radiator came in a slightly damaged box, no big deal however since it seemed like it was packaged somewhat okay, packaging could use some improvements to prevent the core itself from taking damage as it was mostly unprotected. They only put three pieces of undersized foam (one on one side of the core, and two on the other) to protect the core from large damage or penetration of the box during shipping. They pack the corners with more foam so there is some dead space between the radiator and the box. Again, this is a minor gripe as the core looked to be just fine. Where my problem lies is the quality of the product itself. The aluminum used for the end tanks is low quality aluminum (at least I assume), the welds are full of porosity which could also be caused by dirty tungsten, inadequate argon coverage during welding, etc. The overall fit up of parts is absolutely abysmal, with the majority of these parts having LARGE gaps filled entirely with weld. Good luck burping the cooling system with this radiator as well, the filler neck was obstructed by the garbage fit up of the end tank, and there was absolutely no care or concern to grind this back down. I was unable to fit any of my various funnel adapters into the filler neck hole because of this. One of the mounting tabs for the fan shroud was haphazardly installed in the end tank and again filled with only weld on the outside. If they would've taken a piece of aluminum maybe 1.5"x1.5" and extended this section out, this wouldn't be an issue. For a reference and to make things more clear, these mounting tabs are simply placed into a drilled hole in the end tank and welded into place. The petcock doesn't clear the factory intercooler (you will be unable to turn the petcock due to space constraints), so good luck draining your coolant when you inevitably have to replace this junk radiator when one of the various terrible welds fail (if it would've even held up to begin with). The mounting tabs to the core support are a joke, the welds on them are definitely going to break, especially since you'll have to bend them in order to line up the brackets and mounting holes. The tabs push the core closer to the engine as well, leaving a large gap between intercooler and radiator, nothing inherently wrong with this, still clears the fan etc, but could've been done better. No tabs for the bottom of the fan shroud to engage with, you are relying on four bolts to hold the fan shroud on the radiator, and on these trucks the coolant overflow reservoir and windshield washer reservoir as well. Also there are no studs welded to the top for the battery cable to secure to. Finally my biggest gripe with this product, and this might of just been a one-time issue but I HIGHLY doubt it seeing how this thing was made. This is the reason why I returned this radiator, and it SHOULD have been a very easily resolved issue that a few dollars and a trip to the local store could've fixed. I noticed that the barb fitting for the hose going to the coolant overflow reservoir was not the proper size (too small) for the hose, no big deal because the barb fitting is threaded in. Well, attempting to remove it and replace it, probably somewhere between an 1/8 and a 1/4 of a turn later and the fitting sheared in half. This only happens for a couple of reasons, and I believe it was due to the fitting probably being cross-threaded at the factory, however this is purely speculation as I didn't closely examine the fitting or filler neck afterwards. Of course this all happened after the radiator was in the truck and full of coolant. Then began the process of getting it out and packaging it back up to be returned. Like I mentioned earlier, the petcock is completely inaccessible when this radiator is fully installed. Just adding to the headache. I HIGHLY recommend finding pretty much anything else to replace your radiator with, an OEM or aftermarket plastic end tank radiator is better than this. ... show more
