This xylophone has great sound! It's pretty simple--a wooden frame with 1 C scale's worth of metal keys with notes. There are 2 holes at the end for 2 wooden mallets. It sounds very nice. The only thing to know is it's smaller than the traditional toy xylophone, so that's something to keep in mind if using this as a toy. It might be easier to use for kids with finer motor control. See the picture with the remote control for scale. But if you want a small toy xylophone, this is a great pick. ... show more

This is a well-built little xylophone, and it produces nice clear sounds. Very clever mallet storage built into the base of the instrument. I left it out when the grandkids came over and they were instantly drawn to this colorful set. One thing parents will appreciate is that compared to some other musical toys, this one is not overly loud, and the sounds that come out of it are pleasant! My one complaint is that I wish it was a little bigger, it can be hard to strike the smaller bars (high notes) in the center to get a good soound. Our baby loves to play with his little keyboard, so I was keen to get him some other instruments. This xylophone is just adorable -- small enough that he can sit with it between his feet, brightly colored, and with a pleasant sound. I have a fifteen month old and he loves this! It sounds bright and is tuned well enough that my practiced (but not expert) ear perceives an accurate scale. For a toddler that loves music, it is the ideal toy - they have fun and, as a parent, it's impossible for them to play it off-key, so while it's not quiet, it at least sounds nice. A minor benefit is that his older siblings enjoy it, too, so he gets a lot of time from them. The two mallets (yes, that's the name for these two small wooden sticks) that come with it mean baby and an older person can enjoy playing together. I know that I have a fun time just messing around with it... I mean, playing with my son! ... show more

Our 12month old baby loves music. We got this for her and she loves trying to figure out how to get the sound out of it. This works great, able to play notes well and you can store the mallet on the side. Sometimes my wife and I end up playing with it and try to play some tunes!

The tone of the notes is surprisingly accurate. Assumed with a budget kid’s xylophone that the actual tone would be close perhaps but not spot on. Ours was really good. Kiddo loves playing on it and making noise, as all kids do. Wish it had the sharps of course so we could play more songs but it’s not like we didn’t know that going in.
