  • Perfect Once Tweaked
Pattern Name: Flight Controller
This is a solidly built, and fully featured HOTAS that works as expected on Win 10. The programming software allowed me to set up 80 different commands and macros for CFS3, and there are still more buttons and dials left unassigned. The only issue was that the stick would frequently get hung up in the center. This has been reported by many others with a variety of root causes and fixes being speculated on. The tweak that fixed it for me was to bind a pair of adjacent coils on the outer spring to each other with 2 twist ties on opposite sides. This reduced the force on the sliding cup and cone just enough to prevent it becoming bound together without losing the self-centering function. ... show more

  • Good value for the money
Pattern Name: Flight Controller
I bought this a few months ago to use for Microsoft flight sim 20 and for DCS. I used it on a gaming laptop with the newest windows 11. When I plugged in the HOTAS I was a little upset to see that the software didn’t work with windows 11 and only the older versions and they haven’t put out an update for it yet. There are work around a for this. Regardless though it still does work and works pretty well without the updated drivers. The only issue you’ll find is some lack of customization in keybinds and the throttle portion of the HOTAS will not light up. Either way I used it pretty seamlessly on DCS and MSFS20. For a beginner setup I think it’s a great buy. You get a ton of buttons and controls that allows you to get pretty immersed in the game without dropping $500+ on the more premium setups. Some of the pretty big YouTubers who play flight sims have started on this setup as well and still recommend it before going premium. It comes with suction cups that stick very securely to your desk and they worked very well. Once they’re down they’re gonna stay there. I had to move my setup so I removed the suction cups and I did find that once they were removed they did pop up a few times since there was no easy way to remove them in the first place without getting a fingernail under one edge and breaking the seal which did deform the edge a little. The joystick is pretty solid but the motion does feel a little “budget” the spring tension can feel weak thus resulting in some drift which can be altered and fixed in game through the axis sensitivity etc. overall I probably have about 35 hours on it and I would recommend it for a beginner budget setup again without jumping into the premium setups. If you’re just getting into flight sims and don’t want one of those all in one joysticks then this would be a good rout for you. ... show more

  • Dead on Arrival-Plagued with manufacturer defects
Pattern Name: Flight Controller
I have wanted to dip my toes into flight simming for a long time, and the big problem I've had is finding a stick that will work with DCS (that is, has enough hats and selector switches for modern aircraft) while being at an affordable price. There are some nice looking sticks out there, but I just dont have $500+ to drop on some professional level equipment when I really am looking for a higher end entry level product. The X52 seemed perfect, plenty of buttons and switches, enough hats, looked comfortable and exactly what I wanted. Plus the price (~$200 at time of review) was pretty attractive as well. So I pulled the trigger. The stick itself is nice. Its all plastic and feels like it, but the buttons and switches all feel comfortable and nice. I have big hands, but the throttle assembly felt a little large to me. Maybe something I would have gotten used to? In the pro column, though, is that the throttle has a ton of little buttons and switches tucked away, stuff that would make MFD use in DCS very simple or which could be good radiator toggles in IL-2. All the buttons on the stick, felt good and natural. In particular was the Fire A button which is tucked away underneath a safety cover. Flipping that open and hitting the button underneath is SUPER satisfying. I really wish this stick had worked out, because I do like it. But I have to give it a one star review because the stick very quickly ran into serious functionality issues. Like, my very first flight out in IL-2. The throttle worked fine and in two days of testing never had an issue. In that same time, the stick maybe worked normally through one dogfight and otherwise had major issues. The stick axis worked, though would some times get 'stuck' in a certain position (eg. nose down) and had to be reset either by pushing the axis all the way to the gimbal limit and let it move back to center. Or, in as many cases, it needed to be unplugged and replugged into the throttle base. The toggle switches on the stick's base always worked, but about ten minutes into use the buttons on the stick started to die. Either they would stick 'on,' for example the trigger would stick on and I would shoot through my ammunition, or more commonly (about 80% of the time) they would just stop working all together. I was prepared to fix this on my own, I figured it may have been a software or drive issue. But after doing some digging, no, this is a common hardware issue in the stick itself. It seems the only solution is to take the stick apart, remove any damaged wires (hopefully there *are* damaged wires, not always the case it seems) and then resolder the whole thing. Quite frankly too much work to put into a product that I purchased brand new. And this seems to be a very common problem with the stick, one that Logitek has seemingly decided not to fix. After doing a little more reading online (wish I had done that in the first place tbh) it seems like the whole X50-series has similar QA and build quality issues, either the sticks come broken or they wear out so quickly as to require a quick upgrade to something better. So overall, despite being a well *designed* and satisfying product I would have to caution you to be very wary in actually purchasing this stick. Its probably not something worth buying new, rather something you may treat as a 'project' stick which you might repair/modify one day into an actually good stick. Or, as someone put in it in one of the troubleshooting threads I read, with the x52 it seems the first thing you'll get is the stick, the second thing you get are tears, the third thing you get is a new stick. ... show more

  • Great Flight Controller
Pattern Name: Flight Controller
My review of this item is not very detailed because this was a gift for my husband. However, I do know that he loves this flight control system. He was really impressed with the features, the different functions and accuracy for use in games. I am really glad he was happy with this flight controller. I will say I was bummed that the package was in the manufacture box. Because this was a Christmas gift and my husband went to get the mail only to find his Christmas gift in there. So much for a surprise. It's possible I could have missed the option to choose during the checkout but due to the value of the item I would have expected it be shipped in an Amazon box. ... show more

Pattern Name: Flight Controller
My husband and I are are in our 50s so that means we’re Gen X. Granted, not a lot of Gen Xers do a lot of gaming but my husband does and I love to hear him laugh when he’s on discord with his friends. Anyway, I asked him what he wanted for Christmas and he sent me a link. It was the first gift he opened up and I’m so glad I got it for him. ... show more
