  • Heavy Duty
Great product as far as heavy duty. I have not taken the travel trailer out yet but it sure does seem like it is more stable.

  • Lippert system
The product was well made but I was looking for a more heavier duty system to go with my heavy duty Road Armor.

  • Not to be used with Road Armor Equalizer
Shackle straps are too short (2.25") You need the longer shackle straps (3.13") for this to work with the Road Armor equalizer upgrade. The 2.25" will work fine with the original solid metal equalizer from the factory, but not with the Road Armor upgrade. One of the reviewers mentioned not being able to grease the wet bolts, that's because they are under too much pressure (2.25") and thus requiring you to loosen them. Change out to the longer straps and grease will flow right in. Lippert correct part number is 862878 for the longer straps/kit for use with the Road Armor. ... show more

  • Quality Control….
Waited too long to install and missed the return window. Had to order 1 shackle assembly direct from Lippert because one of the bolts in the shackle assembly was not plumb, the opposite side shackle would not seat. Same thing with the one Lippert sent. Hopefully #3 will work. Note, I tried all methods to straighten, less than 1/8” needed, to no avail. Did not use heat obviously. ... show more

  • If you can't get grease into the wet bolts, loosen the nuts
I installed Lippert Heavy Duty Tandem RV Axle Attaching Parts Kit (Lippert # 162324) and Lippert Road Armor equalizers on my fifth wheel trailer. The only difference between this "attaching parts" kit (shackles and wet bolts) and the Road Armor "attaching parts" kit (Lippert # 862878) is the length of the shackles. This kit has 2-1/4 inch shackles (distance between hole centers) and the Road Armor kit has 3-1/8 inch shackles. Based on my trailer's leaf springs, this was the correct kit for me. The shackles came with the wet bolts pre-installed into the shackles. The bolts have splines that prevent them from rotating. Depending on how the shackles hang on your trailer when installed, the grease holes in the wet bolts will probably not be in the ideal position. For easy of pumping grease into the wet bolts that go through the equalizer pivot arms, the grease hole on each wet bolt would need to be in the 3 o'clock or 9 o'clock position. Removing the bolts and reinstalling them will probably require a ball joint removal tool kit to press them out and back in. If you search the internet for "can't pump grease into wet bolt", you will find many posts. The most common recommendation is to take the weight off the suspension. That is usually necessary, but not always sufficient. I torqued the wet bolt nuts to 40 foot-pounds because the Road Armor installation instructions said 30 to 50. But I could not get grease into 5 of the 14 wet bolts no matter how I jacked the trailer up. In the middle of my second day of attempted greasing, I loosened the nuts on each wet bolt and pried the shackles apart a bit. Then grease was able to flow through the bolt and exit at each shackle. When done, I tightened the nuts again but only to 20 foot pounds. Then I added some blue threadlocker to each bolt to make sure that the nuts did not come loose while traveling. I may have to loosen the nuts again the next time I want to grease the bolts. I contacted Lippert and suggested that they do some testing to determine what the torque spec should be to allow greasing without loosening the nuts. I also suggested that they add a step to the installation instructions: Before tightening the wet bolt nuts, force some grease through the bolt and verify that it comes out each end. This will eliminate a lot of possible reasons for being unable to pump grease. ... show more
