Every time you turn the light off, it cycles to turn next brightness/color setting. I bought this for a nursery and prefer the lower warmer light setting for night time diaper changes but I have to flash the lights on and off instead of selecting a single setting and leaving it. The small flat golf ball sized lights are placed next to each other, about an inch apart. The aluminum hoop covers the lights and the light spread is nice above and below. I like it and will recommend it.
