Lens is flawless - seems to be well made. Smooth operation and movement. Not too heavy. So the Nikon version came with an adapter that clearly indicate for Canon EOS. Not sure what that is about. Overall, is a good fit and works well for my camera F mount.

The listing description doesn't stress it enough -- this lens is NOT for beginners. This is a fixed 500mm lens, without zoom capability. There is no autofocus or exposure, so plan on putting your camera into full manual mode and adjusting every setting yourself. If you don't know how to do this, steer clear. Luckily, I do some astrophotography with my telescope, and this is essentially no different than connecting my scope (which acts as a 1900mm lens). I did two test shots, one with my fully-automatic Canon 135mm lens, and one with this unit, both from the same distance. Unfortunately, my tripod wasn't handy, so I did get some camera shake, which impacted focus, but you can at least see the difference in the focal length. Now I just need to wait a few months (for the warm weather) to get back out exploring the night sky, and I am hopeful that this lens will give me some awesome shots of the sun's corona on the April 8 eclipse. ... show more

This lens works at least as well as any similar reflex lens I’ve ever tried. Many folks like it due to the unusual circular bokeh all these lenses exhibit. All the images shown in this review taken with this lens show that bokeh. This review and *rating* is also in the context that it’s a reflex lens thus costing a tiny fraction of what a conventional Canon lens of this or any focal length would cost. Besides price, this lens had the advantage over Canon lenses of being small and lightweight – about the size and mass of a 50mm f1.4 lens. It’s a 500mm lens that I can always have with me where the hugely expensive Canon lenses of this power require a serious commitment to lug around. That said, my test cameras for this lens were an R7 and an R6ii. Of course, I used an EF-RF adapter so I had the lens, the T2 adapter to EF and another adapter to get to the RF lens mount. If I can find a T2 in RF form, I’ll replace this to see if it improves lens performance. My photo tests were conducted on a windy day with a very light carbon tripod. I had no weight to dampen down the wind caused vibration. Somewhat baffling, focus peaking did not work with this lens and I can’t say why. I missed focus on some shots and also had some motion blur so it’s reasonable that I’ll get better results under more favorable conditions. It was too windy and cold for me to stand out there longer. One image is the whole scene taken with the R6ii with a 50mm lens. I drew a circle about roughly center of the image. I then changed to the 500mm lens and took the same scene with the reflex lens. I also duplicated the r6ii shot with the R7 to show the difference the APS-C sensor size had over the FF one. Another image is of the arch’s leg. I was trying to focus on the skull but missed and got the arch leg. I illuminated that a bit to show detail. In sum, this lens is capable of acceptable images except for the most serious use demands or moving subjects. To get the top performance a steady tripod is best although given the IBIS in today’s cameras, hand holding is possible. The bigger issue is getting focus correct. To do this will, in my view, require the camera on a tripod and the use of Live View magnification. If I do my part, this is a very serviceable lens. ... show more

    • Decent Manual Telephoto Lens

Narrow field of view, but image quality is good. And focus adjusts smoothly. Perfect fit for my Nikon D5000. Comes with the necessary adapter that screws onto the lens and twist locks into the camera. The lens comes with two plastic connector protective caps. The larger one snaps into the front of the lens, while the smaller one screws onto the camera side. Unfortunately when the necessary adapter is left screwed onto the lens the smaller lens cover no longer fits. This means to stow the lens you either have to remove the adapter ring to use this lens cover or purchase a cover that screws onto the adapter (has threading). This makes swapping lenses more difficult if you have to constantly mount and unmount the adapter just to swap lenses. I'll be looking for a suitable lens cover to avoid this in the future. The lens comes with a storage bag, but for distant transport I recommend a padded case. Lastly, it's a manual lens, which means the camera will not automatically adjust shooting settings. And as such, you'll lose aperture reading and auto adjusting of such, so brush up on your manual skills for your camera before getting in the field. ... show more
