I'm not a finish carpenter--just a homeowner with some DIY baseboard replacements to do. This tool is well worth the money to me, in measuring the actual angle of the corners before I cut the miters. It took a little time to get familiar with how to read the scales, but that was time well spent. It surprised me how much better the inside and outside corners fit, as opposed to just assuming that what looked like a right angle called for a 45 degree miter! The tool itself is built very well, and the markings are clear. I like that the adjustment is stiff enough that it holds the measurement when you take the tool away from the wall. I’ve used this now for a few weeks and it works pretty well in most circumstances. The only thing I wish it a little more refined in the manufacturing process. But for the price it can’t be beat.

The Lexivon miter gauge appears to be a well engineered product and very accurate for woodworking & metalworking applications. I use a larger version under the Starrett name and find both units to be precise for my purposes. There is a major pricing variation between the two units. When I receive my shipment, the miter gauge was packaged in the protective case and wrapped in a box from Lexivon factory. I was surprised the unit had a blemish (dent) on the aluminum frame & outer scale. It still functions as marketing described, but quality control should have never allowed this shipment to be sold as a first class, defect free hand tool. I have asked Amazon for this unit to be replaced with the same Lexivon product. I also purchased a Klein (935DAF) Digital Angle Finder, as there are times that the supplementary angle can immediately be known with a push of a button. If you are looking for an angle within a tenth of a degree, this tool can exceed your expectation! ... show more
