  • Holds great in all bottoms, even with a short scope.
Size: 22 lb
I bought this anchor because I was tired of my danforth breaking free while fishing in rocky bottoms. I was happy to see that this anchor provides well in all bottoms so far. I have been using this anchor consistently for the last 3 months. I fish in Long Island sound, typically between 30-150ft in as much current as I can find. I have anchored problem free in sand, mud, mussels and rock. This anchor works amazingly well even with a short scope. I connected 10 feet of 5/16 chain to the front hole with a 3/8 shackle (had to drill hole larger). Then use large cable ties to connect the rear hole to the chain. When the anchor gets stuck on a rock I can break the anchor free by snapping the cable tie causing the anchor to be pulled from the front out of obstruction. This is done by putting forward tension on the anchor with the engine. This setup works very well and I highly recommend it if your anchor gets stuck often. I use this 22lb anchor on a 22' seasport. It is a pilot house which catches a lot of wind. I absolutely love this anchor and now get to watch the other guys drift by me as their danforths break free. My only complaint with this anchor is the size of the front hole. To me a 3/8" shackle seems appropriate for this anchor. I had to drill the hole slightly larger for a 3/8" shackle to fit. ... show more

  • WORKS WELL
Size: 16.5 lb
THIS ANCHOR WAS A DIRECT REPLACEMENT FOR AN EARLIER PIECE THAT HAD TO BE CUT LOOSE. IT IS VERY CAPABLE AND PRICED WELL.

  • Classic holding power
Size: 16.5 lb
These "Bruce" style claw anchors work well for the muddy bottoms we have around my area in the Pacific NW. There are many copies of this style anchor but I am happy to see the Lewmar brand on this since I trust that brand more than the generic. These have good geometry and nice galvanized finished

  • Threw my Danford anchor away
Size: 11 lb
This is the best anchor that I have ever used. I bought two sizes for my Parker 25' cuddy cabin. One is at the bow and another is in the cockpit for quick anchoring when drift fishing. The hole size could be a little bigger to accommodate connecting gear. I saw a youtube video about connecting the anchor line to the back of the anchor and to use an electrical tie on the shank connecting the anchor again to the chain. I found that this diminished the holding ability of the anchor and rotted through quickly. The reason for doing this is to break the anchor free when it is caught on an under water object. That happens rarely for me so I went back to connecting the anchor at the shank end only. ... show more

  • Works well when used in the appropriate setting.
Size: 22 lb
I have a 34' 8500 lb boat. I bought this as an alternate to my Danforth fluke anchor, which is really a compromise anchor that holds okay in most settings but is hard to trust. This claw anchor holds great on sandy botto ms, and served me well on a recent trip to the Bahamas after an isolated initial incident (see below). It also does pretty well where I live around the southwest Florida Gulf coast, also generally a soft sandy bottom. The drawback to this anchor is that it is somewhat difficult to set. Once set it would probably stay set through a hurricane, but it does have a tendency to grab with only one side of the claw rather than the big middle hook. I learned this the hard way when I was a bit careless while diving the Sapona outside Bimini and it broke loose. My dive partner and I looked up to see our boat rapidly drifting away. Thankfully we had buddies on the boat who were able to easily just fire up the boat and come back to the dive site, but if we had been dead boat diving, it could have been a much more dangerous situation. Since then, I just descend down the anchor line and make sure I have a good set, and fix it if I don't. If you need to anchor in deep water or otherwise do not dive and have no means to access the anchor directly, you may have to try more aggressive methods like backing down on the anchor with a long scope out, which of course isn't the end of the world but I would not call this a "fire and forget" anchor. ... show more

  • Wrong size
Size: 16.5 lb
Ordered a 16.5lb but received an 11lb. The tag says 16.5 but the anchor says 11. Still 5 stars because amazon will make it right. I have a 22lb on my bigger boat and it is wonderful!!!!!

  • Works like a charm.
Size: 16.5 lb
I have a glastron gt205 and this anchor works like a charm. I just drop it and move on with my day. I have yet to have it not hold. The lake I go on is pretty much mud - no rocks or anything so I can’t say anything for that. But I love the fact I can drop it anywhere and not have to try and put the boat in reverse to try and set it. It’s definitely worth the money. Also I put a five foot chain on it. I bought the 16.5 and I think it’s more like 20lbs, if not heavier. ... show more
