  • Excellent!
I bought this as a gift to my 5 year-old niece and she loved it. The xylophone sounds very nice, not too loud. It has metal keys which gives a clear sound. It's mounted inside the cage so it's very easy to carry everywhere too. The songbook is pretty cool for a kid, and the play-along tracks are well made. We had tons of fun with this xylophone so far! ... show more

  • Wonderful Xylophone
The media could not be loaded. Perfect tune and beautiful sound, plenty of resources to learn This xylophone is perfect for my kid's musical practice, it's in tune and the metal keys make it sound bright and clear. The 25-notes are enough to play almost any song. The songbook has songs and activities divided in three levels, plus tons of resources online. We had a nice time with my kid attempting to play the first songs! ... show more

  • It's Chromatic!
I love this xylophone for so many reasons, but first and foremost, it's chromatic! It seems like most children's xylophones are keyed so finding one with a full chromatic scale was exciting for us, especially as we're musician parents. We took a tuner to it, and it's mostly in tune. There were a few notes here and there that were a tiny bit flat, but it's not noticeable when you are playing it. Since this is for children and not a professional instrument, I won't knock off any stars for that. The mallets are a bit flimsy, but we have a lot of mallets around our house so that isn't a big deal for us. It's larger than we expected and also louder than we thought it would be. The notes ring clear and you can actually get some very pretty music out of this little toy. Our family had a lot of fun playing with it today and I'm so happy to add this to our instrument collection. We have a 1yo and a 3yo and both were equally impressed. Definitely worth the money! ... show more

  • An okay but slightly overpriced instrument. Reasonable for jamming.
ASIN: B0DQTBY99L $29.99 Leopold & Marianne | Xylophone for Kids Ages 5-9 | Kids Musical Instrument | Glockenspiel 25 Notes Chromatic | Color Metal Keys | Music Book Included, Play-Along Videos, Blue Carry Plastic Case I don't tend to order musical instruments as toys--I didn't love noise even when I had kids--but I do sometimes order toys as musical instruments. So far, I've had pretty good luck. This is kind of a weird product from a musical standpoint. I played mallets in high school (that's bells, glock, xylophone, marimba, etc). Student bells (smaller than concert bells) typically have 32 notes, from F below middle to high C. This set has 25 notes, from G below middle to 2 Gs above middle (meaning it only has part of the accidentals at the bottom). While it's sufficient to play the little tunes in the book, it's not a good layout for actual music, the notes are neither low enough or high enough. It comes with one, flimsy set of hard mallets, and no soft rubber mallets (which have a softer tone and tend to be less strident and loud). It's not so much the lack of choice as it's the "flimsy." I doubt these mallets will last very long. Certainly not if you have a 3-5 year old banging on the bells with them. The tone is pretty good. The note are high, sweet, and true. The colors help orient you to where you are in the scale. There's not much depth or ring in the bells, they are pretty thin metal. They have almost no dynamic range and no sustain. That said, I can still see them as useful for a musician. They are very light. They are integrated with the case, and won't fall out if you drop it and it busts open. The case has a little music stand. There's room in the case for a set of mallets. You could easily carry them to a jam session and play, and while your buddies might giggle, they do the job. The book is okay. Unlike most instruments that come out of (the place where EVERYTHING is made these days) and are branded by whomever (and there's no doubt in my mind that this instrument IS), the tunes in the included book are ones that any American child would recognize. A lot of instruments have tunes that children from the country of manufacture will recognize, and while there is nothing inherently wrong with that, they will be unfamiliar to American kids. That said, this product costs about 20% more than the same bells that are not branded by a US company. You're basically paying $5 for a booklet of color coded nursery rhyme tunes and a QR code for the manufacturer's video channel. Whether you think this is a good value... eh, I'd probably prefer to pay $5 less. ... show more

  • Clear bright sustained tone
The media could not be loaded. I don't know whether to say this IS or ISN'T a toy instrument — it's great though! My kids are older but this does seem plenty kid-appropriate. [In a kid-friendly house at least; it's not a quiet art! 🤗] It all seems fairly sturdy and the case seems like it could half-survive at least a little mistreatment. But it's not JUST a toy. It's got a pretty generous range and with the sharps and flats and spot-on tuning I kinda got sucked in myself for a good 45 minutes just unboxing it. It sounds great! (Unfortunately when I went to make a sample video all that practice from the first day succumbed to stage fright… 😜) Really clear bright tone and plenty of sustain and pretty consistent across all the notes 👍 ... show more

  • Great Noise Maker
This has really brightened up my family's home with a melody. This musical instrument comes with its own carrying case and it has been enjoyed by everyone. The colors are bright and vibrant and the mallets that come with it are strong enough to take a beating.

  • Such a joy and well made
Cutest compact, really tuned starter xylophone! Love the colors and the shut solid case with little legs for risers. The colorful keys are so much fun! I did have one before I've since lost and even though this is designed to be a child's starter toy instrument it is tuned accurately and can be used to learn as an adult or for fun side performance sounds using a mic to enhance volume. Great quality and really nice and compact carry! Well made!l great value item! ... show more
